Hello all, Split Screen multi tasking would be great.

Oh yes. I can see myself plaing LucasArts games on scummvm while reading a walkthrough on the other half of the screen :)

There is a good talk about gestures and also multitasking possibilities in Jaakko Roppola's blog. I hope and think these are going to be implemented in Jolla Tablet. Multi-touch and bigger screens

#verro88 I think it can be quite safe to assume concepts Roppola introduced in his blog are implemented in form or another to the tablet, even though he disclaims concepts have nothing to do with Jolla.

Split screen is the crucial missing feature to truly have a computer alternative that you can do work on.

I've also been reading for Jaakko Roppola's amazing blog and was about to post this request too. I second this idea!

Jolla's Chief UI designer Jaakko Roppola has already teased this in one of his latest blog posts.

Let's hope it becomes a reality! Jolla should really consider it right now, as it would boost the IGG sales quite a lot.

Ooooohh, pretty! This feature would be so awesome to have - and it presents a very useful unique selling point for SailfishOS tablets, too!

Let's patent it :)

@unlikeyou: Isn't this already a feature in Surface (Win 8.1)? ;)

It will be nice to see this in a tablet. On my Linux Cinnamon desktop, I love tiling and snapping brought in by their window manager. http://segfault.linuxmint.com/2013/07/new-window-tiling-and-snapping-functionality/

It will never reach $1,750,000 and split screen will never realize. If the initial goal was to hit $380,000 and split screen feature need $250k to implement? What is the logic for that amounts?

I'm pretty sure they do it for copyright or licensing reasons...maybe because of Samsungs multiview or sth. like that...

I think it is possible to reach. Now the campaign is going at the rate of 20-30k per day. If it reaches 1,550-1,600k in 10 days, then making another 150-200k in the last two days would be in line with the usual crowdfunding momentum - project raise the highest amount in the beginning and at the end (+when reaching stretch goals) when the undecided ones are forced to make the choice. Judging by the current rate (before the stretch goals announcement), I was expecting this campaign to max out at around 1,600k which is in line with my current predictions.

And what I think the logic is? I think that Jolla wants to re-spark the momentum for the campaign (that's what stretch goals are for) and the stretch goals are set quite reasonably for such goal. I am talking about the first two stretch goals; the third one is impossible to reach which I am personally glad about: 1) I don't care for 3G/4G in a tablet, 2) it would bring very high costs to Jolla which could ruin this campaign (two batches instead of one would be very hard to make). I think that Jolla realized this as well, therefore I think that setting the goal at 2,500k is very smart.

@nodevel well lets hope you are right ._. i could live without 3.5g, but this is something i would really like

mlatu ( 2014-11-29 18:19:28 +0300 )edit

@mlatu I am starting to question my conclusions, as the pace has really cooled off through the weekend, barely making it to 10k per day.

If they can just continue part 2 campaign to continue the remaining fund...

Related to that go vote my idea if you are interested in it or vote here.

https://together.jolla.com/question/65336/jolla-tablet-one-app-in-fullscreen-and-another-app-in-some-corner/

I think it would be sometimes nice that one application could be in fullscreen mode and then another application could be in some corner on top of that fullscreen application. For example while you browse the web you could watch video that plays in some corner. I think the tablet would be big enough for that.

And I was thinking that when you tap that app it goes fullscreen. You could also determine its size and even go split screen with the other app. And maybe you could place the other app where you want it. Not just in some corner.

Maybe when the app is small you could use those cover actions on that app. And when it is bigger you could use it like it was fullscreen. Or something like that.

Feature will be made available if the streched goal is met. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/jolla-tablet-world-s-first-crowdsourced-tablet#activity

Goal #2 - $1,750,000: Split Screen

Split screen allows you to view and use two apps simultaneously, enhancing Sailfish OS’ multitasking capabilities even further. image description Stretch Goal

Seems odd to me to have SW features as stretch goals, especially for those amounts. The HW bits i understand.

Agree, that this is more of a expected feature. Perhaps, it is more due to bringing it sooner than expected. (Dont think is a priority for phone). Also, seen lot of software applications raise money through crowdfunding for development, so not really unusual. Even SW development needs efforts which translates to costs.
