You should get coreboot as an early boot system instead of a BIOS/UEFI proprietary/secret stuff!

I would do the port of coreboot to the jolla tablet. If this is possible depends on Jolla. See https://together.jolla.com/question/115096/jolla-tablet-is-the-bootloader-uefi-locked-down/

How cool coreboot might be, it might unfortunately not immediately be a realistic option. Especially given manpower and time restrictions. The porting would have to be done completely by the Jolla team, to new unsupported hardware. Not to mention we might not be able to get the production line to run with it due to specific tooling at the manufacturer.

That is completely understandable. Yet still, it could still be a future goal to reach right? Even if not making it on first hw/sw/releases?

Coreboot sounds like the typical thing that would suite a jolla device, both with the privacy statement and the drive for open source.

@Larswad: If at a later stage something like that can be done, sure why not? If we can help the community do it, we probably would. Of course there are other options like U-boot or Barebox too. Fact is we cannot do everything now but hopefully we would get there step by step in the long term.

@philippe-de-swert can you make tablet reflashable when partitions are broken, to get rid of frustrating situation like we have with jolla phone now. mess something up, and only option is to send device to care for 1 month.

@Basil: We will try to make sure I think. But as in the current situation, the biggest issue with flashing atm is the legal stuff afaik. Hopefully we won't have to deal with that for the tablet. Hopefully yes but I don't want to promise anything.

@Philippe De Swert: I don't know how Nokia solved the legal stuff, but I legally can (and already had to) re-flash my N900. So it should be possible to solve that, shouldn't it?
