I don't really mind waiting longer and getting the newest Intel SoC with 14nm Cherry Trail chip and Broadwell GPU. Is it feasible or it will increase the price of the tablet too much?

Probably OSS GPU drivers available, less power saving features on these CPUs (compared to Cherry Trail).

I've commented on another processor-based request so this might make me sound like a broken record...the Bay Trail chip is probably being selected since Intel is still subsidizing the cost of these processors. Jolla might not be able to get the great deal they're getting on the next-gen parts. That savings has been passed on to backers in the form of a low cost tablet.
They aren't doing this just to clear out stock—Intel's been doing this to try and compete with ARM by making Atom-based Android and Windows devices easy and cheap for OEMs to build. They've lost a total of $7B because of this strategy and will reduce the subsidy next year to stem the bleeding.
"Analyst Stacy Rasgon from Bernstein Research recently revealed that the aforementioned subsidies amount to roughly $51 per tablet. This sounds like an awful lot of money given the fact that most of the tablets powered by Intel Atom come at prices of roughly $199. Eventually these costs added up to about $3 billion in losses in Intel’s mobile chips division throughout 2013, and this year the chipmaker is expected to lose yet another $4 billion."

I personally don't mind paying more for using more open SoC. It would be quite unpleasant if they'd go with some sick ARM SoC next time just to reduce the price on $50.

We receive a lot of ideas and suggestions, which we are grateful for, but all of them can't be implemented. We've reviewed your idea and unfortunately it is not something we can implement, at least right now.
However, we will keep all suggestions, and might revisit this decision in the future if we see an opportunity to implement this feature-request in an upcoming product/SW release.

What about postponing the tablet and produce an updated phone? Is there an update due? There must be a lot that could be done to answer outstanding hardware restrictions and an updated more powerful bigger phone may be more useful than a tablet - look at Blackberry Passport for instance.

But I hope that the next jolla phone won´t be bigger than the first version, and the TOH are compatible.

What are the benefits for this newer Cherry Trail chipset comparing to current chipset ?
Jolla095 ( 2014-11-20 09:45:05 +0300 )editGPU is significantly more performant which makes it more feasible to use open drivers (since if they are behind Android blobs, on worse GPU it would have bigger impact). Smaller size of the semiconductors in the chip (14nm vs 22nm) means more efficiency for the same power draw. I.e. longer battery life and so on.
