Ok could we please start one major thread on different android app marketplaces? It would certainly help a lot of users (especially those not coming from the Android world) to find useful applications not yet available natively. Jolla can run Android applications; lets make it easy to use this potential.

Available From The Jolla Store ("Marketplaces")

You can install the clients for any of the following market places directly from the Jolla store application:

Yandex

Popular market from Russia with over 100.000 applications.

Good to know:

Put useful information about the market here; mention compatibility with Alien Dalvik on Jolla if there's anything special.

Aptoide

A federated collection of stores with well over 200.000 applications.

Good to know:

Think of Aptoide as a collection of stores rather than one single store. This concept takes some getting used to and isn't hassle free. You might not find an app you search for in the Jolla-Store initially set up when the Aptoide client is freshly installed, but aptoide will give you a hint that they exist in other stores you can add. (Store names follow the pattern of username.store.aptoide.com.)

Aptoide offers a nice selection of popular applications because of the user-created stores. There's no way, though, to filter Jolla compatible apps. The so-called "Jolla-Store" that comes with a fresh install seems to be just a copy of the main store that's not checked for device compatibility in any way. (See this thread.)

Popular Chinese market with over 300.000 applications.

I don't know if there's a canonical URL for all countries and languages. I found, for example,

Probably it's best you search your local Amazon homepage 'by department'. Once you found the link, you just download the application.

Good to know:

Amazon doesn't use Google's non-free API ("Google Play Services") in its own Android devices. Applications from the Amazon market should have a higher chance to be compatible with the Jolla phone, which also doesn't support these APIs. Your existing Amazon account can be used in the market.

All the apps you download are linked to your Amazon account. Even if you remove them from your phone, the Store shows them as installed until you go to your Amazon page and remove the purchase or "purchase" (free apps) from your account.

F-Droid

How to install:

Good to know:

Focus on free software. Applications that depend on non-free APIs (such as Google's) and therefore might/will not run on the Jolla phone are flagged, so it's easy to find compatible software.

The client also allows to add more repositories.

I'd like to know if Jolla gets some kind provision from Yandex sales. If so, I'd use that if app is available there to support Jolla.

At first I installed Amazon, that wasn't to hard. Later I installed black market alpha, but it keeps updating.

Now I've installed Google Play Store, piece of cake, and I'm not a command line lover!

Can we close this question?

It would totally make sense to add this store by default. Although I find lots of the apps ugly, they certainly provide a wide range of tools for linux nerds.

(I'm not a heavy user of android apps and only use few apps irregularly)

+ No need to register (I really like this)
- Only some (all the biggest) apps are verified to match the Google Play versions
- Problems updating the apps with the client

The version from the aptoide page failed to install for me, when I tried a month ago.

The version from Jolla is basically crippled, because I can't add extra stores. So I am back to hunting apks and manually installing them. This annoys me.

Google Play is certainly easy to use (and fairly easy to install), but why buy a FOSS'ish phone and then sell your soul to the devil? Could have bought a droid phone with better specs and blah blah blah.

I have to agree to the_mgt: The whole point is not to have a Google Account, otherwise I could have a 'real' Android phone.

+ (Should be) Verified packages
+ Updates seem to work
- They send you emails asking you to review the apps, even the free ones, but if you have downloaded only free apps, Amazon won't let you review any apps (they still send the reminder email)
- All the apps you download are linked to your Amazon account. Even if you remove them from your phone, the Store shows them as installed until you go to your Amazon page and remove the purchace or "purchace" (free apps) from your account.

If you buy an app, you can install it in your Android, BB10, and Sailfish.

You can remove an app from your device, and it will stay in your Cloud tab, ready to install again. The Cloud tab is filled with the purchases from all your devices. You cannot logout from the Appstore and keep using your apps. To logout, you have to uninstall the Appstore.

Is it hard to install? (I have no idea, I haven't installed it myself.)

Please remember that the Jolla phone primarily is SailfishOS-driven.
Just because we're given the option to run Android thingies doesn't mean everyone should have to.

Personally, I'm rather happy that the Jolla phone came with very few bloaty things pre-installed - and that things not needed are possible to un-install.

Hmm...The problem is with discovery of the store.I happened to know about 1Mobile per chance. This should be made available as a market place like Yandex or Aptoide. Not saying it should be installed.

Well, they (1Mobile) are able to submit their store to Jolla Harbour, and if/when it's "okeyed" it will then be available in the Jolla Store.

Orpeople who are looking for Android app related things for their Jolla could do a search here on TJC (together.jolla.com), and end up on this question / listing.
;-) :-)

(As I remember it, originally just the Yandex store was available in Jolla Store, and the Aptoide one was added later.)

I see that one can download apk files directly from http://market.1mobile.com/. Unfortunately, it's HTTP only (not HTTPS), so there is basically no security.
