I think that it would be a great idea if the Jolla team would try to reach some kind of partnership with companies who might have (and actually already showed) some interest to defend themself from the upcoming of all Android Wear smartwatches and Apple Watch. Look no further than Switzerland for it!! Swatch for the large consumer market and TagHeuer for the luxury one might be two very big players in this field. As i see it the Jolla's UI it's already pretty suited for a smartwatch kind of display, with the active windows etc.

What do you guys think about it?

Cheers!

Partnerships for wearables is a good idea. I don't think aiming for the most expensive luxury brands is so good. I don't know how many Jolla owners would own these - it must be a very small proportion of what is already a very small market. I think partnerships should be more realistic.

Well.. both companies i've mentioned are going to look to some technology to use. Jolla can deliver this to them. For the large consumer market Swatch would certainly be a better option.

Sorry but at least to me 'partnership' sounds a bit like ties for the consumer. If sailfish OS get's an plattform everybody will be welcome to create devices and accessories on top of the existing frameworks and gadgets. Personally I don't see any reason to force the community to buy product of vendor X just because there is a partnership...

Nobody's forcing anyone to buy anything. Even if a partnership would emerge it wouldn't forbid other companies to adopt Sailfish. That would depend on the contract of course, but I don't see why Jolla would do such a thing. A partnership is just a great way to aggregate expertise and create something that the partners couldn't do by themselves.

Don't get me wrong, but any kind of partners will try to keep opponents away. In my eyes nothing that the community get's an benefit. If a company likes the course of Jolla, they can just hop of and create and maintain something great that the community likes. If it's good it will become popular :-)

@ dulog: i din't mean such a partnership in any way at all. Jolla lives on thanks to many different kinds of partnerships who enjoy and support its open platform. This way i imagine some big world known brand such Swatch collaborate with Jolla to build up its next wave of smartwatches' software.

They are doing exactly that: seeking (and getting) partnerships. The problem is that usually the established players have their time before entering into a partnerships with a small company that want to compete with two worldwide monopolists.

Agree. But i, and i'm not alone, find it useless to build each one its own platform when Apple's one its private and they don't want to go the Google's route. Sailfish it's already a solid platform to play with and these big companies should know by now that the people behind it have pretty some good years of experience. One or two big brands on the Sailfish Alliance bandwagon and others will come. There's not other player around who can offer what Jolla can in terms of openess of the software and the UI. Ubuntu Touch, for example, it's too "ubuntuish". Vodafone, to say another one, is around many of the countries where Jolla is.. they might use Sailfish for their own Smart devices and put their services and content on it without to share anything with Google and without cutting out some of the important apps we are all used to.
