Idea about SailfishOS to have a ”Freeze mode”. Jolla's display content is frozen when ”Freeze mode” is activated and unfrozen after exiting ”Freeze mode”.

Problem

I often found myself in a situation, where I need to pass my phone to someone or turn phone toward someone to show something from the phone display. It could be photos, emails, QR-codes from passenger ticket, parcel tracking codes and such. Before I hand my Jolla over, I have aligned and zoomed subject on the display to present the subject in the best way. After I hand over the phone to someone, the phone probably tilts or rotates and sensors react to that and rotate the screen accordingly. At the end subject in the display is no longer aligned/zoomed optimally, as it was just a moment ago.

You can easily test this.

  1. Open Gallery and select a picture, zoom and position some specific detail in picture in the middle of the display.
  2. Rotate your phone to other orientation and back.
  3. See how your picture looks now.

Solution

This ridiculous problem made me think that, if there could be a ”Freeze mode” in Jolla. After you activate the freeze mode the display does not rotate, turn off or change the zoom setting, until you exit freeze mode.

Activation of freeze mode could be made with some dual button press, like with Power + Vol up or two finger swype in display.

You can lock orientation by holding your finger onto the screen while rotating.

Yes. That is true. My apologies @hoarrera. I had to edit my answer, because I had misunderstood how Orientation lock actually works. Silly me :(

Still after Orientation is locked you lose the lock if device orientation changes after the finger is taken off the glass. Like handing the device over to someone, who turns the device in his/her hands to see what it is on the display.

Orientation lock could do it, if the orientation lock would not open automatically after device orientation change.
