What colours do you like?

When the Jolla phone was introduced there was a box in some of the pictures with a myriad of differently coloured OtherHalves. Offering too many colours is expensive for the company but there needs to be a few at least.

The colours for J1 were poppy, white, black and aloe. What colours will be chosen for the release of the second Jolla phone?

So here's the poll

Below you will find a number of alternatives. Feel free to vote for one or more of them. The choice of colours us usually done by the company and then presented to the users. This time you have a chance to wish for your favourite. Don't let this possibility slip by.

If you think that the poll lacks an alternative then feel free to add it. Just remember to tick the box for making the answer a wiki before posting.

Polls are usually done with both the question and the answers/alternatives marked as wiki to prevent harvesting of karma points. The goal is to pick the colours that will make our new Jolla Phones look good, not compete for points.

A tip is to add a picture that shows what colour you're thinking of. Add it with a line like this:

![Name of image](http://link.to.picture/somewhere/nice/outthere.jpg)

A thousand votes?

There are still very few suggested colours and even fewer votes. The statistical value of the votes is more or less null right now. But you can help fix things by voting. How many votes could we have within a week? (This is crowdsourcing so there's no cost for voting, only a chance of a future benefit).

By just having a few votes there's always the chance to nag about not getting the right colour. If the sum of the votes is very high then things are pretty much settled. The message would be crystal clear. These are the colours we want.

So please tell your friends and family and enemies and everyone that they better vote now.

One thousand views

It is OK to start voting now.

Results

The votes are too few to be of any statistical value. And I'm not going to nag. Not even notifying some jolla bloggers made any difference. I guess it is all up to the designers now.

Thanks to all of you that voted in this poll. It is nice to see that there is people that take time to contribute. You are the real heroes. Thanks a million.

Reopened

I've been asked to reopen the poll. ...so now you have a chance to prove me wrong.

If you ask me then you will fail to surprise. I have the odds on my side, you know, and a thousand votes hasn't happened here yet...

New OtherHalves

Lime green (one of the top alternatives in this poll - congratulations!) and Nadeshiko pink are available from the Jolla Shop.

Thanks @eric for making this a proper poll. I was on my phone and in a hurry...

vattuvarg ( 2014-12-01 17:54:08 +0300 )edit

I'll say almost any colour but avoid white or ivory because from my present experience with white cover, i note it shows dark stains very easily..somewhat annoying to keep cleaning it then it gets easily dirty again too soon ! So i'll say that white is not a practical colour to use.

Hseochin ( 2014-12-01 18:29:55 +0300 )edit

@Hseochin - I still use my white OtherHalf. I appreciate the wear. Very wabi.

vattuvarg ( 2014-12-01 19:05:24 +0300 )edit

Hello @vattuvarg, why did you close this poll? i understand your what you mean, but you can't expect a real success for a such short time i think. Please give the people more time a minimum of one month. that a really interesting poll. i don't think it is relevant. please have some patience.

cemoi71 ( 2014-12-11 11:57:14 +0300 )edit

@cemoi71 - I was late getting the poll up, really, so the window between asking the question and a sort of deadline was a bit too short.

Mobile World Conference 2015 is in February, I think, which means that the chance of influencing the hardware of J2 is gone by now.

With the current rate of voting a good base for statistics would have been reached in march 2016.

I am a patient man but the problem is that i was too slow to create the poll...

The fourth one (the vest/top color) is just perfect! <3 \o/

The choice of color is almost paranormal in the light of the following article.

Kupilka Gear

The Finnish outdoor gear maker Kupilka has a strange material that looks really nice. Both rustic and high-tech.

I really like that one

My dad has a cup an american GI gave him back in 1946. It's from the same material and it has lasted for decades now while remaining very haptic and easy to clean. This stuff is great and I wonder why it's no longer used. Maybe because it looks kinda worn even when it's new. But that's exactly what I like about it.

Here's a picture of said cup. That cup is almost 70years old!

I vote for this. Sailors, please, take a phone to Kupilka!

Transparent

This would allow the owner to put a drawing, a photo or something else and have it protected inside the OtherHalf.

Get a transparent one, frost it on the outside and add some flashing LED lights...

Polycarbonate shells for RC racing cars are transparent and painted from the inside.

black and whita would be the basic choice... and on top of that i think jolla wouldn't be producing j2 in the coming year.. they would need to stabilize the software before they produce another phone ... and even if they produce another one they must stick to the current dimensions so that j1 TOH will fit on j2...

coming to the real question . .. i would like a fluorescent green one

thats what i'd want!!!

Ghost ( 2014-12-01 19:21:59 +0300 )edit

@Ghost - By the way... If the users here at together get to decide then the next Jolla phone will have the same size as the first one. So the OtherHalves will probably be compatible.

Carbon Fibre

Faux Carbon

I would love a real carbon fibre TOH, alternatively, if the costs are too prohibitive, then a good quality faux carbon fibre would be acceptable.

@vattuvarg @Ghost

Fluorescent Green eh?, perhaps Lime Green might do?, it does look pretty good!, even if it is only bashed out quickly from a cheap 3D printer!

Sadly, the lighting in my apartment is not great for taking true colour images, but I think you get the drift from the collage.

@Markkyboy - That OtherHalf looks good!

As for the colours... I just threw some suggestions onto this page. Your suggestions are as good as mine (or maybe even better).

The semi-transparency is close to what I'd like to see with the Jade alternative.

vattuvarg ( 2014-12-01 22:07:39 +0300 )edit

@vattuvarg - Thanks man, glad you like it, I have yellow and chameleon as well, but they are not a good fit. Even this green one has bits missing and really is poorly printed, but still gives a good idea of how a colour can look, so far, I like them all! ::)

There's definitely an itch to make my own OtherHalf but right now I have to settle for a lower level - envy from a distance... :)

Jade

Jade mineral

This green mineral would be a bit hard to copy because it is semi-transparent and textured. With the minimalistic design of the Jolla phones it would contrast well with the black of the display glass.

Slightly greener than the Aloe OtherHalf.

Comb yellow

Honeybee comb Honeybees are important, not only because they are in trouble, but also because they know how to create a really beautiful yellow comb that is then filled with liquid gold.

Yes I'm a beekeeper (Apis Mellifera Mellifera in Top Bar Hives). ...and YES, I would pay well to get a 3D-printed OtherHalf with a realistic comb look.

The cells should be 4.9mm between two parallel walls. The cell bottoms should have realistic angles.

Hey, It's close to Christmas so I am wishing as hard as I can.
