What colours do you like?

When the Jolla phone was introduced there was a box in some of the pictures with a myriad of differently coloured OtherHalves. Offering too many colours is expensive for the company but there needs to be a few at least.

The colours for J1 were poppy, white, black and aloe. What colours will be chosen for the release of the second Jolla phone?

So here's the poll

Below you will find a number of alternatives. Feel free to vote for one or more of them. The choice of colours us usually done by the company and then presented to the users. This time you have a chance to wish for your favourite. Don't let this possibility slip by.

If you think that the poll lacks an alternative then feel free to add it. Just remember to tick the box for making the answer a wiki before posting.

Polls are usually done with both the question and the answers/alternatives marked as wiki to prevent harvesting of karma points. The goal is to pick the colours that will make our new Jolla Phones look good, not compete for points.

A tip is to add a picture that shows what colour you're thinking of. Add it with a line like this:

![Name of image](http://link.to.picture/somewhere/nice/outthere.jpg)

A thousand votes?

There are still very few suggested colours and even fewer votes. The statistical value of the votes is more or less null right now. But you can help fix things by voting. How many votes could we have within a week? (This is crowdsourcing so there's no cost for voting, only a chance of a future benefit).

By just having a few votes there's always the chance to nag about not getting the right colour. If the sum of the votes is very high then things are pretty much settled. The message would be crystal clear. These are the colours we want.

So please tell your friends and family and enemies and everyone that they better vote now.

One thousand views

It is OK to start voting now.

Results

The votes are too few to be of any statistical value. And I'm not going to nag. Not even notifying some jolla bloggers made any difference. I guess it is all up to the designers now.

Thanks to all of you that voted in this poll. It is nice to see that there is people that take time to contribute. You are the real heroes. Thanks a million.

Reopened

I've been asked to reopen the poll. ...so now you have a chance to prove me wrong.

If you ask me then you will fail to surprise. I have the odds on my side, you know, and a thousand votes hasn't happened here yet...

New OtherHalves

Lime green (one of the top alternatives in this poll - congratulations!) and Nadeshiko pink are available from the Jolla Shop.

Thanks @eric for making this a proper poll. I was on my phone and in a hurry...

vattuvarg ( 2014-12-01 17:54:08 +0300 )edit

I'll say almost any colour but avoid white or ivory because from my present experience with white cover, i note it shows dark stains very easily..somewhat annoying to keep cleaning it then it gets easily dirty again too soon ! So i'll say that white is not a practical colour to use.

@Hseochin - I still use my white OtherHalf. I appreciate the wear. Very wabi.

Hello @vattuvarg, why did you close this poll? i understand your what you mean, but you can't expect a real success for a such short time i think. Please give the people more time a minimum of one month. that a really interesting poll. i don't think it is relevant. please have some patience.

cemoi71 ( 2014-12-11 11:57:14 +0300 )edit

@cemoi71 - I was late getting the poll up, really, so the window between asking the question and a sort of deadline was a bit too short.

Mobile World Conference 2015 is in February, I think, which means that the chance of influencing the hardware of J2 is gone by now.

With the current rate of voting a good base for statistics would have been reached in march 2016.

I am a patient man but the problem is that i was too slow to create the poll...

Brass

Brass Sextant

Not gold. Brass. The number one nautical metal. ...or perhaps the base of a steampunk project?

edit flag offensive delete publish link more

Comments

Not if it is not actual metal, but I think the current front might not be designed to withstand a metal back. Maybe PVD then. But brass turns green.

pulsar ( 2014-12-03 00:33:50 +0300 )edit

@pulsar: it won't if it comes a good varnish film afterwards... the only problem is how flexible will be all the things (don't forget that flexibility is needed to put the TOH away). and the weight, which will be sensible more heavy...

cemoi71 ( 2014-12-03 16:44:30 +0300 )edit

I said i doubt in can be a metal sheet, but it could be PVD. I don't know how durable PVD would be on a phone, however. It's not jewelry.

pulsar ( 2014-12-03 19:12:39 +0300 )edit

what do you mean with pvd ? physical vapor deposition? you need with it a varnish film too, but you're right, is a good alternativ, still flexible and light.

White for engraving

An OtherHalf with thicker material would be nice. It would allow cutting or engraving by the owner. White and dyeable.

Comments

This is the option I would pick for my own J2. I would carve it with a hexagram from the I-ching and not paint it.

Black for gluing

I would like a TOH for the artisans out there. One that allows adding material without increasing the overall thickness. Preferably black.

Knives from Lapland

Then I could get something like this for my J2.

vattuvarg ( 2014-12-01 18:10:01 +0300 )edit

Could be covered with felt for that real wool feeling. ...and look.

Magenta toner

No serious phone should be without a nice pin... er ...magenta OtherHalf. Obnoxiously blushing colour.

cemoi71 ( 2014-12-03 02:03:03 +0300 )edit

@cemoi71: All polls must be wikiposts, use the checkbox under the text input field and above the submit button...

Marsala

Marsala The Pantone colour company has chosen Marsala as the colour of 2015. It is pretty close to Oxblood but lighter.

Comments

It is actually quite exciting to have picked a colour so close to what Pantone chose. :)
