Currently it's difficult to visually distinguish between running applications just by their covers. Covers look very different compared to application itself, so it's not easy to visually associate cover to an application just by looking at it.

I'd suggest to add application name and/or miniaturized application icon to/next to covers to help identify running applications.

Application name (small font, like in application selection screens) would be sufficient. Icons might clutter the home screen ?

This one is tricky really, should get UX design input. I believe it's the responsibility of each application to identify itself properly. Sailfish should, however, implement a good default, such as the application icon.

Of course - but even the core Jolla applications are hard to identify using the cover only. Some covers do have a background image (email), some nothing (messages).

I believe just the names using very small font would be sufficient. However i'm not a big fan of the application covers anyway.

Indeed, maybe this is why I feel the screen too crowded when more than 4 covers are up. It is hard to follow which is which.

Simplified app icon on upper left corner would be ok. As example, Mitakuuluu icon is a little too big, but helpful. https://openrepos.net/sites/default/files/packages/26/screenshot-screenshot-26-12-13-14-29-10.png
