Not sure how this can work out, but it will be very nice if created by users XT9 language packs can be distributed through Jolla store. Ideally the language file should be in a already available data format, but if not possible - any format with sufficient documentation will do. This would help avoiding the current situation with the several closed XT9 languages, directly packaged in the XT9 Qt/QML plugin.

If this can't work, can we at least get the format/docs of the user dictionaries?

Seriously? 4 years and no progress? This is REALLY basic feature. Jolla, please, PLEASE, do something about it. What's the point of having a smartphone with which you can't spell in language which you use everyday? --__--

This one sounds nice (and really predicting), GPL though: http://presage.sourceforge.net/ - here is a video of it integrated with Maliit BB10 style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZHbtN4UU0E or XT9 style: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXNWHP7Qd9c

EDIT: Converted to an answer, in order to be more visible.

EDIT 2: The 5th Jolla updated added the possibility to change the predictive engine for a specific language. Will do some research if Presage is now possible.

@Bundyo FYI I have put together an input predictor based on Presage: https://github.com/martonmiklos/sailfishos-presage-predictor
I am still polishing it and if anyone has expertise in this area feel free to contribute even with tips. What source shall be used as an ngram source. (I have used novels, but the they usually lacks the first person singular/plural versions of the verbs, and so on.)

Would it be possible to perhaps look into alternative engines for word predictions too? Do we have any candidates that are OSS?

@Stskeeps could you please confirm that there are no pending plans for creating an alternative prediction engine? I am planning to create a Presage based prediction 'plugin' and I would not like to do double work. Thanks in advance!

@martonmiklos I think you should ask someone else than Carsten. His last visit on TJC was Apr 27 '16. Maybe @pekka-vuorela or @Keto can answer you question. I think https://together.jolla.com/users/1161/pekka-vuorela/ will be the best person to answer but I don't know how to link him.
