An option to add app-specific shortcuts to the desktop/app drawer could vastly increase the convenience of use if there is a specific (hard-to-reach) task in an app that the user often uses. Apps could have an option to program shortcuts that can then be added to the desktop by the user.

One example would be a simple folder shortcut. My Dropbox saves files 10 folders deep and navigating to them every time is annoying. It could also be a shortcut to a script or batch job, which would allow the user to run even quite complicated things quickly.

This concept has been present in Android for long.

Not sure if possible but can't you do what you want by creating a .desktop file and specifying the Exec section accordingly??

I guess that might work - I'd never heard of them before. I'll try that.

For anyone who hasn't heard either: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=83294

@Kagerou: Technically it will certainly work, it's a way to pass parameters to an applications while you launch it. That's only part of the solution, though. The application itself must be designed to take parameters from the command line and interpret them.... plus, you need to know what parameters are valid and how to use them. So for example if you have YTPlayer installed and want it to always open the 'Music' channel instead of its main menu on launch, you need to ask its author if there's a way to achieve this from the command line (probably there isn't) and ask him if he could add command line parameters as an additional feature (or submit a patch yourself). Only after command line parameters that do what you need are implemented for a specific application, you can start adding them to the *.desktop file.

Update: I'd suggest putting such *.desktop-files into /home/nemo/.local/share/applications rather than /usr/share/applications.

@ossi1967: Thanks! I think your comments answered my question from here about custom Terminal launches.
