I have read that the camera shutte speed is limited by software to 1/30s. It must be done to prevent blurry images hand held.

But is there a way to use the camera to longer exposures like a few seconds?

Not with native camera app, but you could try with some Android app. There's also a native app called Camera Plus found in openrepos.net, but I don't know if it has the feature you are looking for. Keep in mind that could be technical reasons why camera can't keep shutter open for more time(heating?).

Camera plus has more or less the same functionality as the default camera app. It is just looking a bit better and easier to use. No long exposure.
