On Android there are several offline wikipedia applications, for instance kiwix. On N900 there is evopedia, apparently a still active project. Would it be possible to port it to sailfish (it is based on Qt!). Use of Android application is difficult because of the need of special formatting of SD card.

Cheers, Mariusz

Every platform has to have an native app for Offline Wikipedia, so i decided to build my own - Zimpedia. Package for phone and tablet can be downloaded from OpenRepos: https://openrepos.net/content/mkiol/zimpedia. My inspiration comes from beloved N900's Evopedia.

Thank you so much for your efforts. It's great to see, that there is a native Offline Wikipedia coming. At the moment it is not usable for me: ZIM files in home are way to large. Sd-Card support is required. The German Wikipedia File does'nt work for me.

Anyway: There is no donation possibility shown on openrepos. I would like to support your work by spending you some beers.

Hi. Fantastic. I've jsut checked with small ZIM file for english simple wikipedia (on SD card, 1.2 GB) and it works very well! Thanks!

If anyone finds my app useful, please donate OpenZIM project. Zimpedia wouldn't be possible without their work.

I just tried out zimpedia - great! Thanks.

But also a question arised: Is there a programm/app that can integrate the wiki entries into a map?? Meaning: Is there an app for offline open-street-map usage with wikipedia entried? So as poi or similar you can select wikipedia (offline) - and the entried lead to your zimpedia articles.

I have asked evopedia developer but they do not plan to port it to sailfish. I have actually some issues to run aarddict on android (Nexus 7). It does not find dictionaries in default download location... hm. Anyway it maybe not a solution for jolla which has currently rather difficult receipe to make Android applications see the sd-card.
