What about a Jolla TV ? [not relevant]
I know that this is not a priority... But just had the idea two minutes ago...
With the success of the Jolla tablet crowdfunding, I'm thinking that maybe a Jolla smart TV would be a realistic project.
Hey sailors! What do you think about it?

(that also requires several models, i.e. sizes) I see nothing in the smartness that cannot be provided by such a stick and no reason to ship a display with it.
attah ( 2015-01-10 18:21:09 +0200 )editWhat jolla will have do is offer SalfishOS for SmartTV to big manufacturers in China like TCL (the biggest of all) for example. They are so big that they can easily take the risk and be capable of distributing enough TV-sets with this still exotic OS. Whether the SmartTV carries a jolla branding or not is not important now. What counts is that SailfishOS becomes more popular. So if jolla ever plans to provide SailfishOS for SmartTVs, it would be time to do it now before Android took over 80% of that market. Providing the operating system doesn't carry a lot of risks, producing SmartTV does. Most of all, jolla would never be capable of designing LCD, OLED and possibly Plasma-TVs (which I prefer) that can compete with the competition quality wise. So providing the OS would be a wise decision, everything else wouldn't. Last but not least, I ask myself what's the use of a gesture based UI on a TV without touch screen. In combination with the jolla tablet, it's ok. But as a stand alone solution, it will lose about everything that makes SailfishOS UX so unlike.

However, in the future, after Sailfish2.0 on Jolla tablet is out, it might be interesting. But I would rather see support for existing streaming (smartphone --> whatever ) technologies which could open doors to much more markets including Smart-TV. If it needs more than software than correct me - MHL, DLNA, Mirror-Link, ...?
