Scenario: Two people with a brand new Jolla device decide to test XMPP instant messaging. They logon to jabber service providers, create accounts and configure their account in the jolla device and want to chat.

Currently they have no chance to start chatting with the jolla device.

They cannot add the IM information of the friends account to his contact information. They cannot sync or import the IM information if maintained in e.g. evolution. They cannot initiate a chat with the IM address only.

As I learned from some postings, they might be able to chat via pidgin or other XMPP software, getting each other into their buddy list and would then be able to import the buddy into their contacts. As long as it is not possible to use the jolla instant messaging implementation to start from scratch, it is - sorry to name it - a joke.

It is also not acceptable that IM information in a contact card file cannot be imported and even less acceptable, that it leads to complete failure during import.

Let me know where and how I can help to improve it.

Agree, I was completely lost when I tried XMPP on my Jolla. The possibility to add a contact is definitely needed.

In long term the missing stream extention support is much more annoying when you have a mobile connection, but could agree more its shame, even more if the user has no idea about xmpp.

workaround: install android-app yaxim, create account, add buddy, close yaxim, configure XMPP-account in jolla.

Hello DLQ, thank you for providing another workaround, which might help some users to start. I still would like to get rid of workarounds and to have the scenario supported by the sailfish message center implementation for XMPP. Can't go around and tell all my friends how good jolla and sailfish are, if workarounds are required everywhere to get something to work. And I want to go around and tell everyone, that its really great and really easy to use and something they would like to own as well :-).
