how to search on TJC? [answered]
it happend a couple times to my now that i opened a thread that was "duplicate" even though i always looked for the question beforehand but havent found the original thread.
i find that by just using the search the results are incredibly bad. some good threads are found though through the suggestions when you enter the search terms, but clicking them causes the suggestion to disappear. so for every thread i look at i have to enter my search again.
so usually i end up looking through the regular search results - find nothing related, then check the suggestions - see some related threads but checking only 3-5 of them because of the annoying way to open them.
so, am i doing sth wrong? how do you guys do that?
Problem is, everyone has a different way of phrasing similar subjects, probably due to many speaking more than 1 language, not everything translates. I agree the search box can be unyielding at times - Always remember to hit ENTER when searching here on TJC, this will then display all threads based on your search parameters.
Sometimes, it's easier to dive on to Google and ask the question and then look down the list for TJC entries.
For not losing your page/type - Type in your search parameters, watch the list populate, hover on a link you like the look of, right click, select open in new tab - this keeps your existing search page/parameters unchanged/open. BUT, you should be hitting ENTER after your search, don't rely on the list that populates up as you type, it's not comprehensive, hit enter to see the full extent of your search - sorry if you already know this, not wishing to tell you how to suck eggs :)
Spam Hunter ( 2015-01-31 20:28:06 +0200 )editwell when i said the result are bad i meant the ones on the site after hitting enter! the ones suggested while entering the search phrase are mostly way better imho! and the right click doesnt work for me... i can of course open a tab through that but after that the suggestions will have disappeared.
but actually your idea about using a completely different search engine and adding "site:together.jolla.com" might be a better way of searching... i will try that

Spam Hunter ( 2015-01-31 20:43:37 +0200 )edit@Markkyboy it works like in opening the context menu and opening the new tab, but right clicking will close the suggestion window and only if you enter new letters it will reload the suggestions
