Dismissing alarm often snoozes instead

At first I thought perhaps I was snoozing by mistake, but it has happened so many times (and only with later versions of the software) that I am forced to believe I am either going crazy, or there is some kind of behavioural bug.

Expected behaviour: When the alarm goes off in the morning, and 'dismiss' is selected, it doesn't come back on.

Observed behaviour: Many times, for whatever reason, it snoozes instead, going off 5 minutes later.

I have even seen this repeating twice. After it happened once, I was awake and very carefully slid up to make absolute sure I was selecting the dismiss option (I even slid down to check snooze is at the other end). As I was now fully awake I could be very deliberate about it. The same thing happened again. 5 minutes later the alarm went off.

Just to make sure, probably you've checked this already, that you don't have two different alarms with the same wake up time active?

Yup, I've checked that. Been trying to figure out how and when this happens. As this started after some update, could it be related to the 'turn phone upside down with alarm' feature?

Couldn't tell, so possible... Hope you find the conditions, never heard of such behavior here before

I quite sure I'm seeing this as well. In fact, I see several other notifications getting doubled too. New email notification for example. First when checking email then a minute later another ding after I've already shut down network connections.

@Setok: any chance that you 1) dismiss the alarm via swipe and then 2) press power key to turn off the display?

We are looking into this issue, a fix will be included in a future release.

Hi, sorry for the delay but I only now have acces to a real keyboard to type my comment.

I expèerience this as well, I noticed that it happened when thephone was on a "moving" environment, for example a subway train, while walking or on an high speed train. It seems that if the phone is not "still" the gyroscope gets tricked by the small vibrations and thinks it has been flipped to snooze. I never pushed the power button so I don't think this scenario applies to me.

I believe is related: when using firefox on jolla (downloaded from f-droid store), if I turn the phone a couple centimeters to the side while keeping it vertical the on screen keyboard swithches from vertical mode to horizontal mode forfew seconds. This happens quite often, so my guess is that gyroscope sensor is now too reactive on jolla

thank you

@c.la: There was a orientation sensor related bug that might have at least contributed to your problem. When the sensor is being powered up, it initially reports "face up" followed by actual orientation a bit later. Now, if the phone is actually in "face down" position -> sensor reporting makes it look like it was flipped over.

That should be fixed in update 13.

I don't think it is an orientation thing for me, as I open the phone and application to dismiss the alarm, so that problem shouldn't manifest. I think it's more likely the 'Dismiss' doesn't get properly recorded before I shut the phone off, or flip the cover in front of the proximity centre (using a Lastu wallet cover).

Setok ( 2015-04-15 14:24:49 +0300 )edit

@Setok: To clarify - there are two completely separate bugs that cause problems for the same feature: 1) Noise during orientation sensor power up can cause false positives for flip over detection 2) It is possible to snooze already dismissed alarm via power key / flip over

thank you @spiiroin. I would also like a way to find snoozed alarms and disable them before they repeat.

I experienced the same thing, and came to realise that my reflex to press the power button to switch off the display could be causing the alarm to repeat. There seems to be a slight delay after dismissing the alarm (maybe due to the slide-down animation of the pull-menu), during snoozing can be activated. Whenever I consciously not press the power button right after dismissing an alarm, it doesn't repeat.

Still, this is IMHO a UX issue worth fixing. Please ensure that the dismissal is registered. My ideal would even be to switch the defaults around: power button dismisses & pull-up menu snoozes.
