Is this necessary before upgrading? disable Openrepos and remove all patches

In reports about OS upgrades, people keep saying that they disabled all repositories from Openrepos and/or disabled or removed patches. Nowhere in the 1.1.2.16 release notes or the Zendesk update instructions does it say we need to do that (the Openrepos part only if old OS version is 1.4 or lower), so why do people keep doing it? Is that using good measure or just paranoid?

I think it's just to be on the safe side. I did this when upgrading to Vaarainjärvi, but now I kept the OpenRepos and everything went smoothly.

@Giacomo Di Giacomo: It is? How do you know?

Yes it is. :) There are 10 001 questions at the moment and if sorted by date, this is the second on top of that list. :)

unapply patches.. all of them. before updating your jolla.

Furthermore if you are on previous version of sailfish there is no need to disable openrepos.

Patchmanager pathces system so it will conflict with OS update.. After update aplying patches is also at your risk as they might not be compatible with new OS.. Icoderus who is the major contributer of patches is always keeping up with updates of the OS so so far they all get updated quick..

unapply/disable is enough, or do we need to uninstall the patches?

I didn't know about these instructions when upgrading so I had openrepos enabled and I didn't encounter issues. About patches someone else said that the patches weren't disabable after the upgrade so they probably should be disabled.

Where exactly in the release notes did you find the instructions about the patches? Can you please quote? If I press Ctrl+F in my browser and search for "patch" in the release notes, it comes up emtpy.

I don't see it on that page, but I am sure someone said something about them somewhere, maybe it was at IRC.

teun says that they were in patchmanager release notes, but I am not sure, I only know that I saw it mentinoned somewhere.

Someone said somewhere is not very helpful, even though it certainly happened. :-) Most information I can find about Patchmanager is here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=92935 But I also can't find here where it says "disable patches before upgrading the OS" (did not read the entire thread). @Mikaela, If you do find it, would you mind pointing your release notes-link in your answer to that information instead and change its text accordingly? Thanks! :-)

On someone saying something, Skorpy on #sailfishos is having issues with patches from what I understand.

2015-03-03 14:08:51+0200 < Skorpy> damn it... yet again forgot to disable patches before updating and now patchmanager shows a lot of enabled patches... can I reset it easily somehow?
2015-03-03 14:09:23+0200 < Skorpy> no wait, it does remove them correctly...
2015-03-03 14:09:45+0200 < Skorpy> though not all of them

This looks like the patches should be disabled.

I hate how three backticks don't work here… And another update, it was #sailfishos, not #jollamobile
