What does in mean, in perspective of development, that an answer is accepted?

Does it affect on the visibility / searchability of the question?

How does this question relate to 'development'?

@jjaone e.g. if an answer an idea/enhanchement, does it advence to devel? Or if the answer is a bug workaround, does it mean that we're supposed to deal with the workaround and the bug won't, in that time's knowledge, be fixed? In general, what'll happen to the content after an answer is accepted?

Quite impossible to say cause it depends on the nature of the question and.answer given. In feature-requests and bug-related 'questions' the answers are usually accepted when Jolla acknowledges it and/or retags it with 'roadmap' - then we can be quite assured that it will be delivered in future updates, or soon ;) That's just my understanding of how this community works in this forum..

Who have to accept an answer? The question's "owner", admins, other users with significant karma, ...?

@TeHeR I think anyone can click that 'checked'-button displayed in voting section top-left of each Answer. It means that when the Question is closed with option 'Correct answer has been accepted..", ppl will know which one of possibly many Answers was the one community prefered. When you do it, it actually increases your karma ;)

IMHO accepting an answer means that the question can be closed with that one answer as the correct one (there can only be.one). In terms of visibility an answered question is not anymore 'unanswered', but it will show in search results normally.

Edit (in reference to @TeHeR's answer): Even if not all of these questions have an accepted correct answer (nor are they all closed), you can stiil see the "development" roadmap like this: https://together.jolla.com/questions/scope:all/sort:activity-desc/tags:roadmap/page:1/

I don't agree that there can only be one correct answer, that's why some questions see multiple answers posted.also, not all the questions are actual questions with a question mark, there's also bug reports, suggestions etc.with much discussion, not ended by a "correct" answer, but a decision from Jolla

Then the decision by Jolla will become the "correct answer" cause often when the quesion is 'roadmap'ed the explanation is given in an Answer (by some Jolla employee usually).

I think the "perspective of development" as you maned it is something like the "roadmap" tag.

Here you can see the roadmap: https://together.jolla.com/questions/scope:all/sort:activity-desc/tags:roadmap/page:1/

The Guideline project:

The main part in the answer here is nice and simple, up to date, so I think it can be moved like that. The new guide topic "Suggesting and accepting answers as correct" covers a bit larger area. The final guide post might include for example:

Suggesting an answer as correct

  • option 1: Person who asked the question can always accept any of the answers
  • option 2: It answers directly to the question and works for everybody who might have the same question
  • option 3: It solves the issue in question without requiring developer mode, not being only a workaround
  • option 4: It's clearly the most supported answer within other suggested answer to the same request (still, answering to the question too)
  • If youre unsure, leave it to OP / moderators / admins to suggest as correct

Accepting an answer

  • means that the question can be closed with that one answer as the correct one
  • there must be an answer suggested as correct before closing a question as "answer accepted"

The guideline project discusses on these old guideline posts until September 20th, updating and gathering information from here to a new post The Guideline. You're welcome to join the project, for example by editing and commenting this answer.
