Will Jolla Tablet support USB DACs?

I think arg0 is referring to external USB DAC's. This will allow to play your music trough an external high quality audio DAC. aptX is an audio codec developed by CSR for bluetooth audio transmission and have nothing to do with USB.

@tvicol: Yes, that's what I meant. Actually, there were two questions (now edited) in my original post. Sorry if this caused confusion. In other words, my USB-related question is: does the Jolla Tablet support digital audio out through the USB port, so that I can connect it to an external USB DAC?

I doubt it, as Jolla's implementation of USB in Sailfish OS seems to have meant only charging, and MTP transfer. No audio, no video, not even OTG. A shame because both Symbian and Android have supported it in the past but it seems not to be a priority or there are too many limitations.

Whether a TOH DAC is possible is another story...

TOH DAC is not possible or at least not possible without major hardware hacking. TOH was desiged with an i2c bus which is improper for audio. To connect a TOH DAC you'll need a i2s bus which allow enough bitrate for audio.

well, Stefano Mosconi stated in a MWC 15 interview that the Jolla tablet will have USB OTG, so the usb management is different than the one on the phone.

If you are interested in this, you may want to vote and comment on this question as well:

Support for usb HID in the kernel is a requirement for using an external sound card on the tablet, but it is not enough: at a minimum, some way to select the externar card as the device must be in place for it ti work). But at least, it looks feasable.
