I've got quite a few Android apps that, from time to time, produce notifications that won't disappear - especially those of failed downloads on mobile connection etc.

Deleting them from SailfishOS user interface makes them reappear upon the next restart of Alien Dalvik.

So I thought about using apps that hook into Androids notification structure and get rid of them there.

Every single app that claims capable of doing so and does NOT require Android 4.3.x initially redirects me to the accessibility center where I have to grant it permissions - Alien Dalvik has no such accessibility center. The app crashes and I'm stranded with a whole list of dead notifications. Uninstalling the app that caused them, even wiping any traces of that app doesn't help. I cannot reinstall Alien Dalvik just for this as I'd be losing all my modifications to it. And even then I'm not sure if it's Alien Dalvik acting up or SailfishOS as the notification handler.

Will we ever get such deep access to Android functionality? Or at least a way to clear notifications in case the user deems them broken?

Has anyone found a way to manually delete botched up notifications?

I might have found a solution - my Alien Dalvik is rooted and I used the tool Titanium Backup.

Under backup/restore tap the apps Download Manager/Downloads and use the button on the right that is labeled 'delete data' right below the uninstall button (rough translation from me). Might also have to be done to the app that cause the notification in the first place. For me it was only a stuck download thus Downloads data had to be reset. After that I rebooted Alien Dalvik or the phone, don't remember. The notifications were gone permanently.

You must ask, is there a solution for a non rooted Alien Dalvik? The answer I can give you will not make you happy, but I by no means claim to have the last word on this. Uninstalling Alien Dalvik losing all the stuff you had installed and reinstalling it might save you. No guarantee on it. By the way I do not know if the Titanium Backup solution needs root to run at all or just for specific tasks. I was just describing my environment and how I got it to work.
