Adding an Avatar Photo in contacts brings you to gallery only. It should offer alternatively to shoot a pic directly with the camera.

Yes, we haven't yet implemented this feature, which requires quite a lot of coordination between the People app and the camera app. Please vote for this feature if you consider it important.

just face this situation tiday while adding a friend in my contacts

@MattVogt Irrespective of the People app, I think that it should be generally possible for an app to request the user to take a photo, e.g. to allow Mitäkuuluu to easily send a photo to someone else.
