I gave my jolla phone to my sister when her android phone gave up the ghost (after making a complete backup and then resetting it). Before I can get a new jolla I do need my contacts vcf file from the extracted backup.tar file but which file could it be? People is referenced in .git/logs/HEAD by a string of numbers. I can see photos and videos in the blobs folder thanks to the thumbnails.

The file is called all.vcf the original path is \home\nemo\.vault\People\data\all.vcf as the Backup.tar is the actual git export. You may use gitg (linux) to open the .vault.state file -> select branch master -> file tab has the same structure as the .vault folder.

That's what it looks like on the phone itself - backup.tar contains the files without names just checksums?

I really should've tarballed .vault manually as backup.tar is almost useless on a computer

Ehrm yes, using git could help a lot! On linux you can open the .state file with gitg or some other graphical git tool.
