Any comment from Jolla on younited closure?

I received an email saying the younited service by f-secure would be discontinued: see message here https://www.younited.com/en/home

No wonder a native app never materialised.

Wonder will there be a new partner found to provide cloud backup?

The good thing is they finally close my account which I couldn't close myself. Despite 2 emails to customer supports and complains by several people in their forums, they simply don't like that you can delete and account manually.

I use ownCloud, so I'm all covered. Even though it would be convenient, I don't think it's a good idea to focus on one cloud service. You never know what happens with such companies... Like Wuala, known for secure, private, Swiss based cloud service, that got all the sudden sold to a US company and thus changed their legal terms radically.

It was a miserable service anyway and I was unable to use it ever since the Android client stopped working on Jolla. I doubt there are any active users, so the question about a successor is academic at best.

I think Younited was doomed on the day F-Secure sold it to a US based company.

Owncloud +RPi; what else does a Jolla owner need?

Just another reason to push forward with full ownCloud integration. That simply cannot be shut down in the same way.

We already have Contact and Calendar sync, automatic photo upload, RSS aggregation and cloud file access. With a full integration, this would all be combined under one account in the Accounts UI, where you only enter your server URL and credentials once. OwnCloud could easily provide cloud backup for Sailfish on top.

There's a huge overlap in rhetoric between Jolla and ownCloud. I'm surprised they weren't partners from the start.
