Hi!

It would be great if we could search for phone numbers in the phone app, or maybe even search all the contact info for specific things. For example I had a problem with whatsapp where a few contacts showed with phone number and not with name and the solution was to rename those contacts. But I had to turn on my old n900 with yappari to find out what people belonged to those numbers because on the Jolla one can only search the name fields.

You actually can search by phone number, but it isn't immediately obvious how to do so. Short answer: in Messages, choose 'New message', press '+' and use search field in the contact browser.

Long answer: We index most relevant properties of contacts in order that they are searchable, including phone numbers. However, to reduce the loading time of the People app, we don't load all phone numbers at startup, so they can't be indexed, and thus are not searchable. When you invoke the contact selector from Messages, however, we do load all phone numbers, so you can select from them - searching at this point will have the phone numbers indexed.

We can fix this by loading the phone numbers in the background after the People app has completed startup.

Ah, I didn't know that workaround. Thanks for the tip!

It's good that there's a workaround for the number search. But we still need a solution rather than a workaround. Most of us will be importing contacts from other services - and many users, especially the "business users", will need to search for contacts by company, e-mail, position, title etc.

"Short answer: in Messages, choose 'New message', press '+' and use search field in the contact browser" Cool, it works! An addition here: Do not use the leading + in the search field. You should enter the number as 4611223344 to find number +4611223344, it seems.

As described in my comment above, the fix for this problem is to load more searchable data in the background so it can be indexed for searching in the People app.
