Hello there,
both of my speakers were cracking, so i was looking for a way to replace them without sending them to Jolla. @Alex: thanks for your hints
i have used the Nokia Lumia 720 earpiece and HTC One X Loudspeaker. both ordered at BisLinks (U.K.) total costs less then 10 euros
here is a description how to dismantle your Jolla to replace both of them:
remove screws, take care it's two different types, so remember which was where:
lift from bottom to remove the black cover
there is one screw that holds the metalic edge, again lift from bottom to top
now remove one more screw and disconnect circuit board, just lift them gently with a knife or something - the obvious black cable on the left - two near the battery - two at the top on the left
then gently lift the circuit board. (on one side is a screw on the other its snapped in) the front camera is glued in, but i was able to get it out together with the board
the result:
use a screwdriver or a knife to get out the speakers. the original earpiece died during the procedure. i glued the new in with 4 tiny drops of glue
the loudspeaker was easier to remove, the HTC one is self sticking, so no problems here
the only tricky part during assembly are the connectors. be patient ! i spent 15 minutes to connect them all yes the cracking is gone, both do sound better then the originals !
Have you tried cleaning the earpiece with a strong magnet? Even though the earpiece is protected by some kind of fine fabric mesh it seems that fine metal powder finds its way into the earpiece. This trick is at least worth trying before total disassembly. Might reduce or remove crackling sound but can't of course help with too low sound level that has been there from the factory.

jollailija ( 2015-07-28 21:31:21 +0200 )editGreat How to! I also bought the same Nokia Lumia 720 earpiece and HTC speaker and now the crackling sound in the earpiece is gone. Much better quality. And the loudspeaker also sounds a bit better.

davekelly ( 2016-09-09 18:36:23 +0200 )edit@davekelly No, AFAIK, the HTC earpiece can't be used. Use the HTC speaker (not earpiece) as loudspeaker (e.g. link). For the earpiece speaker, you need the Lumia 720 earpiece (or Lumia 820 as mentioned below).
johanh ( 2016-09-10 12:43:43 +0200 )edit@johanh thanks for that, didn't know if the thread was getting any attention or not so I ordered a HTC earpiece and a Nokia 820 earpiece as they both looked like they'd do it, if the HTC one doesn't fit I won't cry, it's only £1.49 after all lol funnily enough it was from that same place you linked to so I might message them and ask them to change it for me then I'll have a spare! Cheers :)
davekelly ( 2016-09-10 18:58:39 +0200 )edit@davekelly I would recommend changing the loudspeaker at the same time, too. It is an improvement and easy to do at the same time when replacing the earpiece,
johanh ( 2016-09-10 21:20:19 +0200 )edit@johanh Thank you, I've messaged the seller and asked for the earpice to be swapped for the loudspeaker, that way I've got both, I think I'll do the two as you suggested, makes sense while it's in pieces . . . . . . ;)
davekelly ( 2016-09-11 13:25:54 +0200 )edit@pawel - thanks for the guide! :)
I ordered a receiver from eBay (UK seller)) on Monday, got it this morning and already had Jolla1 in bits ready for transplant. 10 minutes, job done and no more scratchy voices!, well pleased. £1.99 and about 30 minutes of my time.
The component even came in a little plastic protective tray, a nice touch I thought!; http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=161445648014 (tray not shown in listing).
