Pre-alarm for alarm clock

I'd love to see a pre-alarm option for alarms, i.e. a more gentle audio notification which won't wake you up when you're sound asleep, but is just enough to get your attention when you are half awake.

Ideas for configuration options, sorted by (my personal) priority:

  • time offset for pre-alarm (how many minutes before the actual alarm time)
  • different sound for pre-alarm
  • custom volume for pre-alarm
  • repeat interval for pre-alarm (until actual alarm)
  • integrate media player (e.g. play music 30min before actual alarm)

Post Scriptum:

Another (less specialized, but also less comfortable) solution could be to let users configure a pre-alarm by setting up two subsequent alarms. To achieve this, users would need the possibility to configure a few things per alarm (i.e. not globally for the whole theme)

  • alarm sound
  • alarm volume
  • alarm duration (how often to repeat the sound until the alarm stops without interaction)

Even though it would be less comfortable to use, it would probably be easier to implement, especially with regards to a clean user interface, and also add more flexibility (e.g. configure more than one pre-alarms)

Post Scriptum:EDIT:

Another (less specialized, but also less comfortable) solution could be moved alternative suggestion (per-alarm settings) to let users a separate request, because it is more generic and would offer a viable workaround to configure a pre-alarm by setting up two subsequent alarms. To achieve this, users would need the possibility to configure a few things per alarm (i.e. not globally for the whole theme)
