Part of the touchscreen is unresponsive

Yesterday evening I pulled the phone out of my pocket, and the touchscreen was not reacting, I hat to shut it down using the power button. After the restart there is on horizontal line in the middle of the screen what isn't reacting to touch events. Using the CSD tool I can see the line clearly in the multitouch test, also the touchscreen self test is failing. Especially for vertical gestures like on the home screen or while typing in landscape this is very irritating.

Can this be a software issue or is it clearly a hardware failure? Should I try a factory reset? This would be my first one since in got the phone in January 2014...

If it is a hardware failure, any idea if i can fix it myself? I fear it would be no warranty case anymore, and If I buy a new one I would bet just the next day Jolla will announce a new phone for Europe :D

Hi Balta, was you able to fix your issue? As I am having the same problem too

Sadly not, even after a factory reset and the update to 1.1.9 it persists, so has to be an hardware issue... why is Finland so far away... :(

:( well for me this issues appeared after updating to Björnträsket 1.1.7.24, so I thought that might have caused the issue.

So just to compare, randomly the screen won't work and sometimes it does. When it doesn't work nothing can be done apart sometimes even view swype will work.

When it does work there is a small line in the middle which acts weirdly and it fails the CSD tool checks right in the middle.

So even with sailfish 2.0 you have this error?

It happened for me once I tried a factory reset but that did not help, so it must be a hardware failure but i do not know how to fix it, fortunately my warrant had not expired at the time.

Last week my Jolla's screen spontaneously developed similar issues. Somewhere just below the middle of the screen is a dead spot that doesn't accept touch events anymore. It's particularly annoying because it prevents scrolling and dragging from working. The phone didn't drop and the screen's not visually damaged in any way, so it must be an electronics issue with some of the touch screen sensors. Rebooting and recharging didn't fix the problem. I doubt it's the kind of problem that can be solved without changing the screen hardware.

My Jolla's out of warranty and it doesn't look as if there's even any replacement phone available that runs Sailfish at this point, so I'm not sure what to do. I'd strongly prefer not to become a part of the Google or Apple "ecosystems". I understand Jolla wants out of the hardware business, but they'd do well to make sure there is always a reference model available, even if it's simply an OS image for a Nexus or other commonly available phone.

I have the same issue. The multitouch test (using the csd tool) reports a broken (horizontal) line. To make things funnier, after the last two OS updates, the touchscreen worked flawlessly again for a week or so before the issue reappeared. So this might not be just a hardware issue but a combination of a hardware and software issue...

On my phone it's a permanent issue, not related to updates. I think there's a bad contact point somewhere in the screen and it's showing up on many phones.

I'm lucky for now: I thought my touch glass or touch chip was damaged, because there was a 1cm think horizontal line at the bottom, which had no touch response (I found out because the back-button in android-apps stopped working), which could also been seen via the paint-app, but: running the CSD-tool (Dial ##310##) showed at all 3 touch-tests no error, and fixed my problem somehow! Android-back-button works, touch screen completeley responsive again! Restart, putting out battery for a while did not help.
