How much disk space is needed for filesystem optimization?

I can't update Sailfish, because I get a "too less disk space" error while the optimization process. How much do I have to free up?

After deleting some stuff and moving the backup files to my sdcard and rebooting, I have about 5 GB free space available.

btrfs fi show
Total devices 1 FS bytes used 8.35GiB

So before I start to find and clear all Android caches and other useless files I would like to know for how much space I'm aiming.

Thanks in advance!

That should be enough, just run btrfs balance to rearrange the allocated space.

this should suffice. 3 gb was definately not enough for me or better brfs-balancer. dont forget to do balance after freeing the space

Started a btrfs balance manually now. Let's see how that goes. Unfortunately I lost the ssh connection, but it still seems busy, so I wait.

Started the optimizing process from the updater after the manual balance from command line. After an automatic reboot (I wasn't watching the display for a while), I ended up in a "session" with no available network connections, hanging and unresponsible apps. I couldn't even reboot, I had to remove the battery. After that I was able to finnish the optimizer and download the update, installing now. Very strange.

Anyways, 5 GB free space and btrfs balance seems to do the trick.

I possibly had the same issue yesterday. I had 6.5 GB free, the install script said I needed at least 1.5 GB but it still wouldn't install claiming not enough space to rearrange the file system, so the update didn't even start.

I rebooted the phone and after that it worked without a hitch.

Had the same problem with over 4 GB free. Did manual balancing in terminal: devel-su and password. Then: btrfs balance start -dusage=5 / and increasing dusage at increments of 5. Jump from 95 to 100 did not work, so did first 99 and then the final 100. Some of those I did a couple of times, but may not have impact. Now system is in shape and have SF2 Saimaa.

The first sign of the problem was that I could not make a back-up. Took a while to think about the file system.
