Sailfish OS 2.0 - Keeping the volume buttons for MEDIA VOLUME! (Or at least optional)

So I upgraded to pre-2.0 version (1.1.9.27) and I just find out that the Volume buttons no longer changes the music volume at all if there is nothing played in the background... Instead, it changes the Ringtone volume (!?!?!)

If you guys going to change things like this, please at least give us an option to "Use volume buttons for Media volume only".

Btw have you tried 3 finger swipe up or down?

http://reviewjolla.blogspot.fi/2015/08/jolla-tablet-specs-hardware.htmlVolume can be adjusted with three-finger-pull gesture, up or down.

@HtheB: it changes the ringtone volume only if you are in Events, lock screen, home screen or the app list, if you are inside an app it changes the media volume.

@HarhaanJohtaja: doesn't work on the phone, probably because the screen is too small for a three finger swipe.

@nthn doesn't make sense to me.... Still they should give us the option to ALWAYS bind the volume buttons to the media volume

@HtheB: actually I was wrong, it only changes media volume if you are inside an application that can play media, like in the browser. I agree that it should be changed to always bind to the media volume, this is one of the things that really irritates me to no end about Android - you can't lower the volume before opening something you know will be way too loud for the situation you're in.

This is fixed in a way that allows user to enable/disable mediavolume-only behaviour using dconf. The fix is coming in future release. When the fix is released, it can be controlled as nemo with

dconf write /jolla/sound/force_mediavolume true

For those of us not using the dev mode or not feeling comfortable tinkering the settings manually, will there be a GUI option for this also?

@jusa, any idea on which release we are going to see this in?

Does this work in 2.0.0.10 already?

Ancelad has made a patch to get back the Media volume buttons like we used to be! Download it using Warehouse or this link: https://openrepos.net/content/ancelad/patch-volume-buttons-control-only-media-volume

Please consider a donation for him if you liked it!

I don't see how a patch is a valid solutionn for a feature request. I have a few issues myself with the setting of different volumes and I have no intention of installing a patch to solve it, so removing the correct answer mark.

What issues do you have?

Ancelad ( 2015-09-14 08:29:27 +0300 )edit

Just the basic as mentioned in the above comments:

  • Can't adjust media volume if no media is playing, at least in the following apps:
    • Yle Areena (Android)
    • CuteSpot (native)
    • HERE maps (Android)
    • Facebook (Android)

Might be others as well, but typing this with my Jolla, so checking and bouncing back and forth is a PITA, so not checking all.. :)

Also: - (feature request) Add media volume slider to settings and as an ambience action

raketti ( 2015-09-14 08:51:10 +0300 )edit

Could you control media-volume in those apps without my patch?

I don't have any patches installed and I won't install them either. This is an issue in SFOS and it should be addressed and fixed. :)
