Hi there,

i participate in the early adopters program and have updated my jolla to sailfish os 1.1.9.28 yesterday. After that i tried to download and install an apk file (http://schoener-fernsehen.com/files/sf.apk).

When i tap the download in the list of downloads nothing happens. When i try it with the File Browser there is just a short message (german) "Installation gestartet" / starting to install But the message just disappears and no installation is following.

UPDATE: Some users have the same problem and the only option for now would be to purge and reinstall aliendalvik. That's not a real option. We want so determine what is causing this error and get it fixed. Check last post for a workaround until we know more.

I'm seeing the android popup, for choosing between install or verify and install, but can't click, the window disappear. i guess the bug comes from this.

I tested your file. Installation and app-startup works well. But video streams don't start - I use Zattoo which works perfectly (but has many local restrictions), so maybe it's a problem with the SF-app or it needs services Jolla's Android emulation don't deliver.

Did your application work on earlier SFOS version? I really don't think this has anything to do with the latest update. Try to reboot phone or restart Android support.

The top box with the "+" only appears when installing SFOS apps.

Hi, thanks for your effort. Yeah you need to install flash player to make it work... but that's not the problem...

my problem is that it does not install ! And i'm getting no error or anything. I also tried this one -> http://bs.to/asset/App/BS.apk and it is the same problem :( When i try to install it it just kicks me to the home screen and nothing happens. Icon missing, so nothing installed. Reboot did not help :(

Maybe there is a possibility to install it via terminal an get some debug/error messages or verbose mode, i'll investigate that now...

(Ok maybe i mixed something up regarding the box with the (+) icon it's just for rmp files...)

daywalker ( 2015-09-10 11:40:49 +0300 )edit

OK i tried the following:

  • restart aliendalvik service via gui, try to install apk with file browser -> nothing

  • restart aliendalvik via terminal as root, , try to install apk with file browser -> nothing

  • tried to install apk via terminal as user nemo and as root with apkd-install xyz.apk -> nothing (sadly no verbose mode, no help options and no man pages for apkd-install)

  • as mentioned here: https://together.jolla.com/question/61240/install-of-apk-packages-fails-with-fresh-installed-android-runtime/ -> tried to disable and re-enable untrustet software in jolla system config -> manual apk install still nothing :(

-> tried to install 1 android app via jolla store -> this works but manual install of my downloaded apks still doesn't work :(

i am out of options, any idea, anyone? sure i could reinstall aliendalvik but all my android apps would disappear right?

daywalker ( 2015-09-10 12:07:39 +0300 )edit

Release notes tell us that Android apps will not work until reboot. Perhaps uninstall alien, reboot, reinstall, reboot, install Aptoide, start it, and only then try to install your apk from terminal or transfers?

My aliendalvik works flawlessly (tm) with 1.1.9.28...

reinstalling of aliendalvik would be my last instance. i want to know why and how i went into this condition. and it seems like i'm not the only one... so i am willing to provide any logs or debug msg to seek and destroy this error. to be safe i had to purge aliendalvik alnd this would mean loss of all android apps and content :( in a productive state this is not an option...

daywalker ( 2015-09-11 10:14:19 +0300 )edit

Just to be sure; have you checked thet installing untrusted software is enabled in Jolla settings?

There are ways to backup Android data per-app basis, so you would not lose data. Keep searching TJC, I've seen howto for that!

I have exactly the same problem, I can't install APK files (it's ok with Play Store and Aptoid).

In File Browser, I tried to install 5-6 APK files and I can't, nothing happen. And before with 1.1.7 version I had no problem with the same packages. I don't know if it could help but I have Android Play and Android Services installed...

same for me, i also have installed the google play store! but i can't imagine how this would be the reason why we can't install any apks... i did not allow playstore to autostart in the jolla app config...

Only have Aptoide and Jolla Store, same problem here, though apkd-install gives me another errormessage: [nemo@Jolla ~]$ apkd-install /home/nemo/Downloads/sf.apk method return sender=:1.5 -> dest=:1.171 reply_serial=2 boolean false [nemo@Jolla ~]$

Shoppinguin ( 2015-09-11 14:09:54 +0300 )edit

I couldn't get apk files to install until I had aliendalvik runnin already. What I did was I started Aptoide, and tried again, and then it worked as it should.

I had similar issue with 1.1.9.28. Tried installing Aptoide store, rebooting the phone etc but still cannot install .apk's from File Browser. So I installed an "Apk Installer" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.graphilos.apkinst) from Google Play and it works fine now. Just need to copy the .apk files to android storage and use apk installer to install them.

I were going to file this bug report. But thank God, that someone else made one. My fix for installing Android apps by running in developer mode: devel-su and then apkd-install app

Ok. I´ve found the reason for the problem: when You are opening any APK file, the Alien dalvik are confused, and can't prompt, how to install the app.

for that You need Aptoide, Yandex or another android app market.

find the android file manager (x-plore or your favorite).

Also get a neccessary apk file.

from android file manager try to open the apk file. it will promt how to install. Verify and install or just install. pick one of them and hit Always.

It worked for me.

Thank you, installing a File Manager from one of the markets and using that to install the .apk worked. The devel-su and apkd-install did not.

Had the same problem. Stopped working after installing play store. Guess installing Google Play service caused this problem. Did every one here had Gplay installed?

Update: After trying to install APK from android, I chose "Installer" (Not verify and install) and chose "always using this option" problem seems solved. I can install apk from sailfish file manager again.

I can confirm that, apk installs worked normal until I installed the Google Play Store. What have I done to get around that:

  1. install Play Store

  2. Install APK Installer from Play Store

  3. Install Aliendalvik Superuser from Openrepos

  4. find Superuser apk in /usr/share/*superuser, copy to android storage, install it via APK Installer

  5. Install Market Helper

  6. Change Device Type to Galaxy S4

--> able to install nearly every app

yoktobit ( 2015-09-18 22:09:09 +0300 )edit

Thanks a lot @Waxberry, all is working now!!!

Sorry @yoktobit but where can I change device type to Galaxy S4? No option for Market Helper...

Just recently i srewed up my Jolla real bad and had to do a clean wipe. I was updating to 1.1.9.28 without adding any accounts or apps beside the Jolla account required for the updates. I have found that manually installing apk files from file manager or from the download manager works without a problem though it sometimes takes quite a while for the process to start. Still don't know if i was just lucky or if there's something else to it.

It appears to be fixed with v2.0.0.10(Saimaa). At least i can install apk files again. Can anyone confirm?

I had similar trouble even with 2.0.0.10.

tried to open any APK from Jolla's file managers or from finished transfers, and the phone jumped directly to homescreen.

so I did, like I wrote in the answer above.
