The new built-in ambiences in Eineheminlampi are very nice, but I liked a lot of the old ones too. Unfortunately, the old ones seem to have vanished from my ambience gallery with the early access upgrade, without any warning that would've allowed me to back them up somewhere. Can we please have the old ambiences added back?

Hmm… I don't know, if they've changed something before releasing 1.1.9.28 to everybody, but all my old ambiences are here untouched.

Yep we're talking about SailfishOS 1.x ambiences.

mine too are untouched

@Sthocs Yes, I see. I'm talking about the same. I had some ambiences installed (two from the TOH — Snow White & Keira Black — and some downloaded from the internet or created by myself). After updating to 1.1.9.28 none of them had been deleted, and all settings (ringtones, volume, colors) are intact. They appear together with the new ones (from 1.1.9 update) in top menu.

@rburkhanov@cemoi71 this is about default ambiences a device shipped with, not TOHambiences or user-created ambiences.

This is in the release notes, don't mind reading them.

Sure, it's in there, but buried pretty deep. You might as well expect people to read the full text of a EULA as manage to catch all that stuff. And even if the inconspicuous mention in the release notes might be considered adequate warning, I don't see why they felt that they had to remove the old ambiences at all. What would've been the harm in just leaving them in place? Even if they were considered less cool and shiny than the new ones, and therefore in need of deprecation, why not simply put them at the bottom of the ambience list, or move them to an optional package or something?

I don't see why they felt that they had to remove the old ambiences at all.

Because of their dimmensions. Even on the phone which has very low resolution display it needs at least a 960x960 image. Having a square out of a 540x1600 image would result in a low quality 540x540 image zoomed in up to 170% to fit and well all extra 1060 pixels of the height out of the display. All those beautiful images would look sh*tty on these zoom and crop adjustments.

After all, if they leave them untouched you couldn't add actions to them – useless.

@AliNa: nope, the phone displays a 960x540 image, it doesn't rotate the images (yet?), so the old ambiences still display correctly (but now we never see the bottom part of the image), so they could have let them for now. And why do you say we couldn't add actions to them? From what I see, we can add actions on all ambiences.

@thebat137: well, it's far from an EULA text (it's actually cool to read), and as an early-access user, yes you are supposed to read them in order to give an accurate feedback, or at least, to do a ctrl+f in them before posting a question :)

@Sthocs if you rotate your phone to landscape while an app is open do the following:

  1. Swipe to go home
  2. Release swipe finger
  3. Image rotates

So, yes, the images do rotate and need landscape support.

Ok it's because you've only tried with the new ambiences (I had only tried with old ones on my side :P). Try with one of your old ambiences, you will see that they don't rotate and thus stay compatible ;)

If you are still on earlier versions, you can backup the ambiences. They are located at /usr/share/ambience/
