Those two things are definitely connected. I had it a few times: an "app registry corrupted" popup during something innocuous like downliading a file in the browser, and the next thing you know is all weather stations are gone. Why? No idea, but it used to happen all the time. My cure for that was a new battery. Again, I fail to see rhe connection, I just report my experience.

I noticed it yesterday and I had to reenter all locations. I cannot remember having reset app registry, though.

I experienced the same problem in Weather app months ago without any other problems relating to app registry or something. I just ignored it.

I noticed the same behavior several times since 1.1.9.28. Don´t know the reason...

in my case the sms, mails, mail accounts ... have been gone too. after a restart they reappeared, just the weather locations had to be set up again.

dmnk ( 2015-11-14 13:05:50 +0200 )edit

@dmnk, exactly the same happened to me earlier this week.

pichlo ( 2015-11-14 13:54:37 +0200 )edit

@dmnk@pichlo, and me too - yesterday evening. Received an email, my phone could not download content, So I put aside and checked on my computer instead. When waking up this morning, "No email account set up" as I was trying to check for new emails. rebooted the phone, the email account were back, but then I noticed that all my Weather locations were gone. I am on 2.0.0.10. It has never happened to me before this incident. And no registry notification at all, at least any that I noticed. And did not do any app registery reset either.

SFOS 2.0.0.10 Just experienced the same for the 2nd or 3rd time now. - Noticed that mails were not refreshing. Then: Disabled / Enabled Wifi. Didn´t help. - Internet worked fine (Browser), so did Jolla Store. - I closed the Mail-App, opened it again and was told there was no mailfile. - After that I rebooted the phone. After reboot the mailfiles were there again and replicating, but the locations from the Weather App had disappeared. - Any idea when this happens or how it could be avoided?

Is there anyone experiencing this who doesn't have the 'emoji keyboard' from OpenRepos installed? It seems random but I uninstalled it about two weeks ago and haven't had this problem ever since, whereas I used to get this every couple of days. Considering said keyboard had an option to opt-out of getting your data collected for statistics which would suspiciously get reset after some time to keep the data collection going, it seems like it could play a role in this. Of course it could just be a coincidence, which is why I'm asking.

No openrepos, patchmanager or whatsoever here. It happened only once, though.

I have Openrepos but no emoji keyboard. This issue happens to me about twice a month. I have a feeling that downloading a few files in Browser prompt it happening sooner and rebalancing btrfs from time to time postpones it, though I do not have hard data supporting that. Resetting emoji keyboard settings may have been a victim of this bug, not ot the culprit.

Hm, so it must be a bug in Sailfish itself. Come on Jolla devs, it can't be that difficult to figure out the difference in how Weather locations are saved versus all the other settings and find when/why this storage is getting reset.

The most curious thing just happened. My email accounts have disappeared but my weather location has not! A reboot brought the accounts back as usual.

It was even more curious. Usually when this happens, my alerts in events view also disappear. But not this time. Alerts were tbere, weather was there, only the Email app started empty, saying I had no accounts.

I assume I just happened to catch it in some transition stage.

Apropos there goes my theory about btrfs. I had downloaded about a dozen files a few days ago but I did btrfs balance twice since then.

@nthn: I don´t have emoji keyboard installed

MaTi ( 2016-02-25 18:32:09 +0200 )edit

Okay, there we go, just happened to me again. Went to bed with three open applications and the phone connected to the charger, woke up to an empty home screen, no Twitter feed and of course, no locations. What could possibly happen when nobody's even using the device? At least it seems that if you turn the device off and on again immediately after noticing this, the ssu release doesn't get set to latest.

nthn ( 2016-02-26 11:15:19 +0200 )edit

Has happened to mo twice in 2.0.1.7.

Happens to me once or twice a month. Does seem to be connected to OOM crashes and that critical problem with app registry shenanigans. Just another item in the ever-expanding bag of frustrations.

Anyone from Jolla watching this?

I can now reproduce it pretty much at will. All I need to do is download a bunch of videos (I usually download them in batches of about 20 for offline viewing later) and then delete them after watching. Do this 2-3 times and you are guaranteed to have some or all of the symptoms: problems with app registry, disappearing weather locations and email accounts, SMS messages not being updated...

What is guaranteed is that it will happen. What is not guaranteed is when. It can be within minutes or days. I have never had to wait for more than a week.

What to do when it happens? Just switch the phone off and on. Under no circumstances should you use Sailfish Utilities to repair the app registry - that is a guaranteed way to screw things up more. Just power cycle the phone and all except the weather locations will come back. The weather locations will need to be re-entered again.

It has become so reliably reproducible that I have learned to power cycle the phone after every big download-watch-delete sequence as a matter of precaution. So far so good.

Yeah, the weather locations disappeared for me once again yesterday. Getting tiresome to re-enter them as I like to keep track of 5-6 locations.. :/ I have only had problems with the app registry once though. No problems with other apps.
