Inform users about new and updated apps in Jolla store

It would be nice to have a possibility to be informed about new apps in Jolla app store.

Also information about updated apps that are not installed on the phone would be welcome (e.g. waiting for something to be updated to install the app).

The idea is to be informed about new and updated apps somehow without the need to go to the store.

Of course this should be an option only for those who are interested.

EDIT 7.2.2014.: a possible solution is proposed in an answer below. Please give your opinion.

This sounds like a good idea. Since there are not many apps in the store right now it even won't require much moderation. Maybe some weekly email newsletter would be nice way how to handle this.

I'd suggest to implement a specific TwitterChannel one could subscribe to (e.g. @NewJollaApp) so notification would be actively sent to subscribes users ...

@Manankanchu: I don't think twitter would be a good solution. It would exclude a whole bunch of users, who are not (and probably don't want to be) subscribed to twitter.

I have been thinking about this for a while now and would like to suggest a possible solution:

Information about new apps: as @pnuu suggested in a comment: direct notifications (system notifications in notifications screen). This would be an option in Store app Settings. If you don't enable it, nothing happens. If you enable it, you can choose to get direct notifications for new apps in the Store, with the possibility to limit notifications (all, only sailfish apps, only android apps and also by categories: e.g. only office, games and multimedia).
Information about updated apps (not installed): e.g. you are informed about a new app, you install it, try it but you are not satisfied with something. You want to remove the app but would like to know when an update arrives (to try it again). The solution would be to have the possibility in the Store to mark the app as a "favourite" (or "follow app", it doesn't really matter how it would be called). The rest is the same as in point 1: direct notifications (system notifications in notifications screen. Of course, also as an option in Store app Settings). If enabled, you would be informed about a new update for a "favourite" app (although it is not installed on your phone).

Thanks for asking. Did not realize that it was not obvious. I meant by system notifications (which does not have to be on the lock screen since it is not of high importance but would be on the notifications screen). Will edit the answer.

Quite complex subscription options. To add one thing: collect notifications for a daily or weekly notification. ...with this massive amount of new native apps we need complex filters! ;) But seriously: I hope we really need this soon! :)

I agree with you, but still, there is already a way to see the latest apps and updates. Go to Categories -> All. The apps are sorted by date.

@pycage ... are you sure ? I feel the latest App provided is Artem's "Flashlight" which is not at the beginning/end of my "All" list ...

@Neo does not work for me ... after "Show apps with most likes" the first ones are older Apps (SMS-Control, Medard Weather, Scientific Calculator) and then it shows the newest app "Flashlight" ....

EDIT: ... obviously also updated Apps are being pushed up ... so that does not really help me, as an increasing number of App updates makes it increasingly difficult to identify a new App ...

After update 1.0.4.20 the situation is worse regarding the possibility to be informed about the updated apps that are not installed on the phone. Now the Jolla store is showing apps only by release date order and not by updated date. There is no way I can think of to know that an update exists for an app that is not on your phone.

So what I will be doing regarding this issue and can suggest is this (not what I was hoping for but there is obviously no interest at this time to do something about the issues in this post): Install even the apps you won't use at this moment but would like to see what the updates will bring and wait for the updates notifications to see what is new. Of course, this will be easier to do when Jolla releases folders for apps (all these apps waiting for updates will be stored in one folder).

EDIT (31.7.14.): now that there is the possibility to have folders, I have all the apps I don't use but would like to see their updates in one folder. At least this way I know when any of these apps has an update.

I'll leave this idea here because it's related.

Could Jolla add " Recently updated" section to the front page of the shop? There is currently 4 sections Recommended, Activity, New apps and Popular apps. I think there is enough room to just add it there without changing anything else.

This should be fairly easy to do and active developers would at least get some visibility for their hard work.
