I am wondering if there is a chance for a kernel update or even some info on the kernel run by the tablet version of the SailfishOS. I was hoping to use the tablet as a replacement for my laptop. ;)

I'm just curious why you want newer version of kernel ? OS for phone or tablet should be stable so updating everything to the newest version it's not the best idea.

@atlochowski I would quite like to be able to run virtual envs. I got Docker to run on RasPi, so why not Jolla? Tablet would be brilliant for that.

I think you just need to take a look at this thread then: https://together.jolla.com/question/70499/request-fulfilled-enable-container-namespace-features-in-jolla-kernel/

@Elioty That is awesome! I will definitely play with this over the weekend. Retooling from docker might be a bit of a hassle, but it seems to be worth exploring. Now @jolla send me my tablet pretty please ;-)

@atlochowski A good reason would that we are using btrfs, and their mainpage says:

"The Btrfs code base is under heavy development. Not only is every effort being made to ensure that it remains stable and fast but to make it more so with each and every commit. This rapid pace of development means that the filesystem improves noticeably with every new Linux release so it's highly recommended that users run the most modern kernel possible."

Tablet has 3.10 based kernel. We are not planning on updating from this major version to a newer one. Focus of development on tablet kernel is on security, stability, and performance fixes.

@kjokinie This is good, I was afraid it will ship with the the same kernel version as the phone has. As far as I remember docker should run on 3.8+ Having said that, other technologies are worth exploring as well. I really cannot wait for that tablet!

@strayobject: the kernel version on the phone is dictated by Qualcomm. Not so on the tablet.

Considering security and the version of kernel we could not accept any more this answer as acceptable.

@cemoi71: nope, this is still the correct answer. Security fixes can be backported.

@g7 sorry but backport or upgrade or update are just a matter of definition.
the current stand is zero day leak is inside and could not be keep inside
after that how good is it a backport for a good traceability by quality??? i guess it is not so good!.
Even if for the customer which would think always that's inside is a leak, despite of the communication of the patch-action. How far could trust the customer against the provider?
