Hello sailors!

Because it seems to take ages to get offline maps in sailfish app I have been very pleased to use HERE android app. It has work really good and I have nothing bad to say about it.

Until now, I factory reseted my phone and uptaded it.Then I go to google play (because it is only place where I can download it official and get official uptades) and google play says that your device is not compatible whit this application? -Is Here now on supported only 4.4-android? -In the future do we get offline maps to Jolla in Sailfish app? -Do we get support to 4.4 or to 5.0 android app?

Just for the record: I have installed HERE maps from the amazon app store. Works OK.

@maso, I have Nokia HERE for Android installed via Google Play on my Jolla phone. Received an update last week or so, that installed without any problems. So maybe only affects new installations?

@cemoi71, the Jolla maps app itself seems to be made by a company called Appello. The map data is however from HERE. http://www.appello.com/news/appello-builds-maps-for-sailfish-os/https://together.jolla.com/question/41338/here-maps-development/

Bummer, I just checked my Here installation on my Jolla, it is 1.1.9421, and the current one in Google Play is 1.1.9701. So I have not recevied the latest version.

Hi , Thanks for reaching out. Please note that HERE Maps works fine with Android devices that fulfill the following compatibility info: has an Android 4.1 or higher installed 1 GB of RAM or more Screen sizes from 4.5" to 6" needs to have an internal GPS antenna From build 490 onwards, devices running on an Intel processor are supported (earlier builds don't run on devices with Intel processors) Best Regards, The HERE support team

Maybe more people should pester them with requests why all for a sudden the app does not upgrade or install on Jolla devices.

I tried this link. The phone behaved strangely thereafter and rebooted - even before installing the file. Is it clean? Or could it be a trojan: Trojanized Adware

I use this app daily. It's not a trojan and the app still exits. On November 13 2015 Latest Version is 1.1.10001 and works perfect on Jolla.

Thanks for the tip. I noticed that HERE only can be downloaded via apkpure when you ALLOW UNTRUSTED SOFTWARE in Settings on your phone. Now I even have a better version of HERE, with more languages available ! Good luck AkiBerlin.

(Unfortunately not all apps that I like in apkpure react the same.)

I just downloaded the link via PC and then transferred the app with bluetooth to the Phone...worked perfectly.

But I also have 1 Mobile Market as appstore and also there I could have updated the app.

Since the goal is to have an offline map navigation application you may approach it as such from the installation onward.

First you need to download the APK installation file on your device for offline installation (and in order to have a working installation file at hand on your SD-card, after resetting to factory defaults)

One simple installation method started by surfing via Sailfish browser:

1) Get link to official version: go to play.google.com and search for Here Maps.

2) download APK: copy link from 1) to Here maps from Google Play Store into a 3rd party website that downloads APK for you directly from Google Play without Google Play account hassle,

for example https://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ (you'll need to trust this 3rd party site to pass through the original file)

Generate download link and download the APK installation file.

3) launch the APK and install via Sailfish File Browser

4) Download the maps in the Here Application for offline use. You can still download maps with older versions of the core program.

5) check about every 6 months if there is a Here application update available that brings significant improvements + offers compatibility with Android 4.1 or higher installed + 1 GB of RAM and update by running the installation over your existing one.

Eventually update.. or not -- don't change a winning team too often and have fun offline! :D

I haven't had any problems with HERE maps and I've usually updated it through Yandex or Aptoide I think but now I noticed that I had an old version so I downloaded the apk as above and installed the newest version without a problem. :)

I used the method of vandersmash, but when installing the here.apk file, nothing happens. It just says "Installation started, if nothing happens, the packet is faulty". Do I have to uninstall the old here application first? How? How can I check whether the packet is really faulty? Looking at the contents it seems ok and I downloaded it several times and tried different versions since last December

After upgrade to latest jolla (2.0.1.7) the update worked eventually :-) Even the update of the maps works again (didn't work since half a year with the old version)

With google play installed and working there is no problem with here maps. However relying on android apps on the Jolla phone is a not really what I hoped it would have been having a Jolla.

Here is not really incompatible with Jolla, it runs perfectly on our phones. The thing that has happened, as it seems at least, is that the Here developer has removed Jolla from the list of compatible devices, or in other words, the list of allowed devices to install/upgrade on. However, it could lead to a situation were the Here Android app for real is incompatible with Jolla, or even worse, new map updates are not allowed on old Here versions that are installed on our Jollas.

I recommend you the 1Mobile Store, you can download and install the apk. After that you can install nearly all apps available im Google Store also Here Maps, for me it works great also after updating to 2.0.x ...

HERE worked fine, until I did a factory reset after the latest OS update. Now it is not anymore in Aptoide, nor in Amazon. You recommend 1Mobile. I had a look : before you install 1Mobile, you have to let them read your emai, send email to guests without owners knowledge, including confidential information. I didn't want this, so I removed the file. Sad thing.

I had some issues with android apps too (2.0.0.10) and found in the folder "/data/media" some "owner:group" attributes with "nemo:root" as value. Whoever did this, I don't know.

In a terminal I did (aliendalvik service was started):

devel-su
chown -R media_rw:media_rw /data/media

This fixes the issues for me. May be helpful to you. Remember, you do it at your own risk. You should check with "ls -al /data/media" first, if you are affected.

Just thinking... How these android appstores know what kind of phone you are using? I have read something about build:prop file where I can change values and allready rooted alien dalvik and download es file explorer so I can change values in build:prop.. still trying to "cheat" android apps whit no result! here is link for subject: http://www.howtogeek.com/116456/how-to-install-incompatible-android-apps-from-google-play/

It is not a problem with Here application but with Jolla - Google has a list of compatible devicees for some applications and Jolla in not on this list. Such problem will appear with many apps. Try to use other store e.g. Mobogenie, Amazon...

It disappeared from Amazon too, so yes, Here is the problem. Google doesn't decide which app is compatible with which device, it's up to the developers.
