Today Slush 2015 opens, Jolla is supporting partner. Tomorrow, Thursday 11:40-12:00 local time, Antti Saarnio Co-founder & Chairman of Jolla will give a presentation "Jolla: the impossible story continues". Is there any significant news from Jolla to be expected? It has been awfully quite about the new HW company that was announced earlier this year.

Lets start the discussions; rumours, speculations, and facts. What is there waiting for us?

At Slush 2012, Jolla presented the current phone and the Sailfish OS.

At Slush 2013, Jolla news announcing the first commercially Jolla sold by DNA (Finnish operator)

At Slush 2014, the tablet was announced.

At Slush 2015:

@lupastro, that's not true, a small number of indiegogo backers have their tablets already.

@lupastro, fresh news to the Indiegogo tablet backers.

We are pushing to start wave 2 shipments a couple of weeks late, i.e., by the end of November.

@r0kk3rz. You're a right. I meant ALL (minus about 200 of over 10000) of them.

@nick75. I have already lost my faith. First it was May. Then August. Then October. Then November. Now end of November. And who know how big will the second wave be. 200 again?

Slush 2015 - Hardware

Jolla has created a new hardware company. What will be their next task, we have the phone and tablet already? Is it a second phone, or something else?

At Slush 2012; Jolla presented the current phone and the Sailfish OS.

At Slush 2014; the tablet was announced.

Edit:

At Slush 2015; PuzzlePhone will get Sailfish OS and thread here on TJC.

Jolla Tablet 2 maybe? :)

@g7, I hope not .. hopefully, IMHO, a new phone is their top priority.

yes, what use is it setting up a hardware company if there isn't any new hardware in the pipeline??? Perhaps a new flagship phone, but if they're smart they use a rebrand of Intex, perhaps with a different shell that supports I2C for TOH. Don't get bogged down in hardware development, since Jolla are really too small and vulnerable for that.

most likely they will say that phones from their Indian partner will be sold in Europe? maybe Fairphone2?

Slush 2015 - Partners

We know that Jolla and Intex have joined forces to bring Sailfish to Intex phones. We also know that Fairphone is working/supporting an unofficial port to their Fairphone 2, or will it be an official port soon? Are there any other partners to be revealed?

Edit:

Circular Devices announced co-operation with Jolla to bring Sailfish to Puzzle Phone.

Two new partners is actually great.

Once sll of us get the tsblet it'd be nice with it as a standard thing for sale together eith a ne J3.

Well, announcing partnerships is nice, I would rather like commitments. I would not buy a phone for 500€ for the promise that someday SailfishOS may run on it. Don't get me wrong - I really love my Jolla and SailfishOS, but a second phone that is designed for Sailfish would be a better option for me to consider buying...

So Antti Saarnio announced that they will start a Business Accelerator program. That sounds like a really logical step in support of Sailfish development... Oh and a personal guarantee that we will get our tablets.

Wut, that's it? A business accelerator program, what does that mean? Is there a way to see the presentation afterwards?

nick75 ( 2015-11-12 12:58:26 +0300 )edit

Its not for end users AFAI understand.

@raketti, thanks for the link! So basically Jolla starts helping other start-ups, a nice idea. However, this seems to be nothing that would help Sailfish move forwards and increase user base, not at least in a direct manner.

Maybe should change the title of this question to Slush15 - no significant news! .

Any Slush attendee, who can share the experience?

The event is sold out, meaning about 15.000 attendees. The event started back in 2008.
