How to make Jolla's "Media" application show covers for MP3 files?

The situation is that "Media" application doesn't show covers for some of your MP3 files. I dug the question under study and my investigation yielded that possibly values of the "Genre" ID3 tag were guilty. Sometimes people that supply MP3 files, set "Genre" values manually. Perhaps, they really insert some strings (i.e. "Rock") but not the codes which probably correspond to the human-readable words. And if you compare two MP3 files (say, genre is "Rock", and one of them doesn't expose it's cover to "Media") by opening them, say, in "EasyTAG", you will not be able to see the difference. But if you choose, say "Acid Punk" (using the drop-down menu in "EasyTAG"), save the file, then change it's genre back to "Rock" (but, again, using the drop-down menu in "EasyTAG") and save the file, "Media" application will show the cover correctly.

I hope that my observation helps some people who stuck the same problem.

my question is rather: how to get rid of them? :-)

Hi Krum - this has been an ongoing problem with regard to album art and the Mediaplayer app. This has also been covered many times here on TJC, your question is really a multiple duplicate, too many to list, no matter, be sure to use the search box before posting :)

Anyway, there is no 'official' answer and for me, I ended up retagging 30GB of music using MP3Tag, it's a free download and on the whole, it works well.

Alternatively, you could give Flowplayer a go, it offers options to find album art and is largely successful. Try it, you might like it and it also saves retagging your entire collection like I did - thanks to Cepi Perez, others don't have to!

Regards,

Also, try Daedalus. Not many updates recently but still preferred over the default application.
