i noticed that when choosing video mode, camera is a lot more darker than when in photo mode...this was not happening in all of my previous phones...can someone explain me why?

Jolla's camera is really bad at dark. In photo mode the camera has more time to get light than in video mode, plus the exposure and stuff play their own part. You can manually modify the exposure settings to get lighter videos.
If you shake the phone in a light environment you can see the difference between video and photo modes.

Actually, this happens with all cameras. You just can't notice the difference if the camera is good enough.

Its a simple technical reason. The photo mode chooses a slower shutter speed for creating a lighter picture. In video mode it is choosing a faster shutter speed to have a fluid video (1/50 for PAL 1/60 for NTSC [basically fps * 2]). And believe me you don't want to have a slower shutter speed as you will got a lot more blur then.
So its a normal limitation of the camera hardware.

I have the same really annoying problem. Videos just turn out to be crap if compared to pictures; in same light conditions.

Yes, I find that the videos with the jolla camera app are pretty dark, even playing with ISO, illumination settings, etc. The thing is that in the same conditions the videos that are taken from whatsapp are brighter and more correct. I have installed cameraMX which also record brighter videos. So it seems not to be a problem of the camera ¿¿??

I started shooting videos recently and noticed this too. Perhaps Jolla's camera app needs improvements, as we can't do anything about the hardware.
