Unable to download update [not relevant]

Hi guys,

I haven't taken care of my phone for some time now. That's why I'm still on version 1.1.9.30 (Eineheminlampi). Of course I want to update it now. The update tool from the settings finds an update to 2.0.0.10 (Saimaa) but the progress-bar gets stuck at about 5%. I looked around here on TJC for a possible solution but I couldn't find one. My internet connection is fine and I'm only using 5.9 GB of the available storage space.

I hope someone could help me out.

You can try this: (was for downgrading, but works both ways)

Here's the link from step 2: https://together.jolla.com/question/32459/howto-access-command-line-with-root-privileges/

1. Make sure to have internet access (WLAN recommended).
2. Ensure you have developer mode access: https://together.jolla.com/question/32459/howto-access-command-line-with-root-privileges/.
3. Start Terminal.
4. Get root access:
– Enter devel-su and <Enter>.
– When requested: Enter your password (according to step 2) and <Enter>.
5. Now you have root access. (I am not sure, whether root access is required, but I would expect so.)
6. Enter ssu re 2.0.0.10 and <Enter>.
Terminal message: "The device is now in release mode!"
7. Enter version --dup and <Enter>.
The upgrade starts.
8. Wait until a message like "reboot device" and the Terminal prompt appears.
9. Enter exit and <Enter>.
This exits the root access mode.
10. Enter exit and <Enter>.
This exits Terminal.
In my case, the system version (menu |- Settings | System | Product information -|) showed the requested version number now.
11. Reboot: Press the start button to the right until device starts to shut down. When shut down press that button again until device starts to boot.
12. Test your system.
13. Disable "Remote connection" which had to be enabled during step 2.
Remote connection allows to SSH your device e.g. via WLAN and is a potential security risk, in particular if you selected a rather weak password. However, in order to get root access, you need remote connection enabled, otherwise you cannot set a password for root access -- which I regard as a potential security hole in the Sailfish OS concept: It should not be necessary to allow remote connections to get root access.

Thanks for the response. I could certainly try that. Will subsequent updates still be possible the "normal" way though?

@Roundhouse I think so. Type ssu re to see the current release (I don't know the output since I had to switch between releases to fix dependencies), if it is a number (not "cbeta" or something), you'll be allright. Worst case scenario is you will need to ssu re *version* every time a new update comes. So, the steaks aren't that high.

Alright I tried the above but I run into troubles at step 7. After entering the command: version --dup its trying to refresh cache but after 40% gives an error: Error: Authentication failed (is SSU set up correctly?)

That sounds bad. Keep remote access on (in case something goes wrong) and re-add your Jolla account.

I tried, same result though.
