From last week I started noticing that whenever I click photos nothing happens same with the video. Sometimes I can not even see the click button. The apps started crashing suddenly. My device memory was about 65%, so I thought this could be btrfs balance problem, but to balance it how do I open terminal? Because everytime I opened it, it crashed or took long time to respond. So I thought only factory reset is the way ahead and when I tried to create backup on memory card (fresh 32gb) it says “oops problem with backup”. With a heavy heart I reset my phone (losing all the contacts, messages and notes) and the funny thing is now I see the device has gone a year back to Vaarainjarvi. Seriously?? Now I updated to Yliaavanlampi and this stupid phone in hand showing 6.2 gb memory used out of 13.7 with just 10 apps installed and 4 photos taken. No offence! But I am beginning to think that buying jolla was worst decision. Not to mention the headache of restoring app registry several times in a week. Can somebody assure me this won't be the case in future after this reset? Here are my specific questions even after reset-

  1. Why 6.2 gb memory used even After reset?

  2. Whenever I go to terminal type devel-su or just su it asks for password and when try to enter it takes no entries at all.

Well, it seems to be the BTRFS issue, so are you able to access the termnial now?

Regarding your first question: It is possible that old backups (which are even not shown in the UI) are taking your disk space, since there was such a bug in early releases. To delete this possible backups do the following:

  1. Go to Jolla Store and install the Sailfish Utilities app
  2. Open the App via Settings > Utilities
  3. Use the option "delete Backup-Storage (or something named like that), but be aware that also all of your new backups will also be deleted, so save your backups on your SD card first!
  4. Now have a look if this was the actual issue and if you got some free space...

It is also normal that your phone 'reinstalled' such an old Sailfish version by reseting the phone... But IF you were running Sailfish OS 2.0 (IIRC it was since 1.1.9.x) your Jolla should have been updated the snapshot and you should get SFOS 2.0 after using recovery/resetting it. So which version were you using before reseting your phone?

Hello! I was using up-to-date saimaa version. Also when I factory reset it for the first time I found that only sailfish apps (like contacts, phone, notes) lost their data and android apps remained as they were earlier. Then I had to factory reset it again to wipe everything. Now I just cleared the backup with utilities even rebuilt app registry, but no luck. Does that mean after upgrading to saimaa again, I'll have 5 gb or so space actually left for usage?

1 don't know but you could uograde to 2.0 againg then see what is occupying your memory with the memory usage page...

2 linux pass field in terminal is not showing what are you writing nor moving any cursor so you should simply type your pass then tap enter...

anyway i know jolla is not perfect but i'm not having any of the problem you mentioned so you could just be unlucky... :)

Nobody is talking about perfection buddy, even Android and iOS are far from it. Please read my entire question, I had to reset the phone and lost my data of 15 months and it's not the first time I reset my phone. I was probably amongst VERY FEW who waited and purchased on the first day of launch here in India. I am aware about it's history (owned N9), but being unabe to not even backup the data seems SO unfair!!

Same problem here.. Can't install any apps, can't access many functions, camera flickers but doesn't take photos.

Suddenly the earpiece of the phone is muted.. can only make calls on speakerphone and headphones the phone is badly screwed up. Everything complains about space running out, but i have 7GB.. not many apps installed.

I had same problem and I solve it with this https://together.jolla.com/question/30822/root-and-home-disks-full-and-causing-various-problems/

First I transfer all photos and videos to sdcard and then to computer and after that I remove those for more empty space. Then I try to btfr-balance and when it was completed with success these problems was solved.

No need to factory reset or anything what would clear settings or data.
