[Jolla Tablet] Cracked glass, replacement?

I was one of the lucky ones, now I'm the unlucky one! I cracked the screen on my tablet today. The Lastucase was not enough protection it would seem.

The glass is shattered over 1/4 of the screen and the digitizer unresponsive. The display itself is still fine, but as I guess they're fused together that's of little help.

I contacted Jolla support but it's a weekend so not expecting anything from there yet. Any ideas to where I'd find a replacement? I'm not afraid to do the replacement myself but of course I need to find the correct part, so that'll be the challenge. My insurance might cover it and in that case I just need to find a repair shop that has the part and is willing to do it.

Am I the first one?

Very possibly there is no official way to get it replaced...

However I am under the impression that the screen is the same one that is used in iPod mini, so maybe you could order a repair kit for that and do the replacement yourself?

Hmmmm, I've always thought my tablet is a few mm bigger than the iPod mini: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod_Mini

Ok, Ok, I know it's just a typo, but a funny one ;) I hope for the TO and all us other tablet owners that your impression is right.

I'm just glad to see not everyone is nailed to their seats following every Apple announcement, neither am I!:) I really hope it is a ipad mini display, that'd make my life much easier. But if it is, which ipad mini? There seem to be quite a few of them by now. Of course one with 2048x1536, but that leaves me with ipad mini 2, 3, or 4. I'm guessing they haven't used the exact same display for 2.5 years.

If Jolla doesn't have a happy answer for me I'm considering opening it up and checking what manufacturer and model of display it is, that would give me the final answer.

@Fellfrosch, nice catch! Of course I meant PAD, not POD :)

For some reason I have memory of the screen being leftover screens from IPad mini 3, and it was around the era of screen swaps for Jolla. Mini 3 was also about to fade away from markets since Apple was releasing mini 4 the following fall so it would explain why there were these parts avalaible for manufacturers. But don't trust me blindly, better to find more info before ordering one.

I got the answer I was hoping for from Jolla this morning - they'll be able to repair it out of warranty (I pay for the repair, but the cost was very resonable)! It was picked up by UPS on its way to Finland just now, I'll update here with a comment once I get it returned. Hopefully a happy end to this tale!

So far I've heard of no one else with my combination of clumbsyness and/or bad luck, so I guess I was the first one to crack a tablet. Use this as a causion to other tablet owners, thin things with large areas of glass are not very sturdy!

I'm a bit late to post here, but that's just because I've been happily using my once again fully functioning tablet! It was gone for less than a week and returned good as new again.

Even if it went well in the end this is not something I'd recommend trying at home.:)

As I wrote in my first post, I already did. Hope I get an answer in the beginning of next week!

First answer from Jolla helpdesk, fast response given that it was a weekend! The initial answer is: They do not know if or how they can help. Time will tell!

No help from Zendesk, I also by accident cracked my tablet screen and I got same exact "holiday reply message (18.6 - 1.8.2016)" response from Helpdesk: "...If regarding faulty screen, damaged screen or cracked screen glass we cannot help on that matter and we don't know when the situation is going to improve". Great job :/

Has anyone found a matching glass / digitizer to Jolla Tablet?

My advice to all Jolla users: Please protect your device screen with all you got!
