Confusing case of birthday reminder in events screen
This is less of a bug report but a question of a totally confused user on how things should be - because I've now seen my Jolla phone show two distinct behaviours and I'm not sure which is the intended one. :)
In the very beginning, we had birthdays from the birthday calendar show up in the events screen. (This is, btw, the only sensible way to deal with birthdays.) Some updates later, during 2014, this was changed: Jolla claimed that reminding me of birthdays would be "annoying". Ever since, there was not one single birthday reminder on my phone, neither on the events screen nor as a notification.
Yesterday the phone switched off all by itself (for the very first time since 2013, btw). When I re-started it and opened the events view to check for text messages, I suddenly saw a bithday from the birthday calendar there. I'm 100% sure that it hadn't been there before the phone switched off. It's the first such notification since 2014.
So - whats going on here?
Is it still Jolla's opinion that birthday reminders are annoying and shouldn't be there? In this case, having this one birthday reminder yesterday would be a bug. (A welcome one, though.)
Or have sailors changed their minds and think it's a good idea to know your friends' birthdays? In this case, it's a bug that the birthday did not show up before the (unintended) re-start. (As it was a bug that all the birthdays before never showed up.)
On your devices, do you see birthday notifications?
I see birthdays as standard events. They are integrated in a specific calendar and so I can see them in the events screen on specific birthdays. I do not use them often (not filled much of that info in contacts) but I think that there are no reminders though. Make sure that the calendar is activated?
pat_o ( 2016-05-10 11:45:47 +0200 )edit@pat_o Strange. Since 2014, I've never seen one single birthday reminder in the events view. The calendar is activated. There was nothing I did between the moment when the birthday was not shown and the moment when it suddenly showed up. The phone shut down and I re-started it maybe 30-60mins later when I noticed it. That was all. I'm absolutely certain I didn't change anything in the calendar setup or the settings.
ossi1967 ( 2016-05-10 11:50:25 +0200 )editI think it related to lipstick problem/bug. For me it also show birthday notification like it should be, but sometimes it not show and I know it should be here, a simple restart of lipstick help and birthday notification again on event screen (reboot not needed).
Schturman ( 2016-05-10 13:18:23 +0200 )editI can see birthday notification on event screen. Sometimes it's missing. But I have the same with calendar notification. Sometimes I can see them on event screen sometimes not. This is the reason I've started to use patch to see event on the lockscreen. Thanks to this patch I'm not missing events.
