My phone seems to be reacting more quickly and cleanly to swipes and other gestures since I updated (yesterday). Is this my imagination, or are others noticing an improvement? I don't remember seeing the optimisation step in the upgrade process before - wonder if this is behind it.

Yes, it seems to be working faster. I don't recall it becoming faster after updates, and that's a welcoming change. What's also great, I have never had to do a reset and restore, and I am using the phone since the first SFOS release! And I am even using patches (since 2.0, and you know why)!

I think it's certainly because of the btrfs optimization that comes up before updates as last update was really a long time ago, it made a big difference.

And I felt that speed up too. Even though the phone has automatic btrfs optimization, it does it on Tuesday (or Wednesday?) night /IF\ plugged but my phone is never plugged at night, trying to save my battery as much as I can. EDIT: seems like it's not that behaviour anymore (> 1.1.4), btrfs optimization is run only before updating.

Just thought this week as well as I saw those speed improvements, it would be great to have a button in the settings UI somewhere to manually run a btrfs optimization as everyone isn't a terminal guru to do it by hands.

How does not plugging in the phone at night save battery?

@Elioty this was only true during a single version, 1.1.4, i.e. from May 4th to June 15th 2015

@Federico apparently it's better to not fully charge the battery, see here

@Sthocs What statement was true only for 1.1.4?

Elioty ( 2016-05-18 19:59:08 +0300 )edit

Your 2nd § about automatic btrfs optimization.

Sthocs ( 2016-05-18 21:33:20 +0300 )edit

@Sthocs so the behaviour now is btrfs optimization run only before updates?

That's the same for me. This is my first upgrade, have only been with Jolla for a couple of months, but still this feels real smooth.
