Discord is a voice chat program similar to Mumble and Teamspeak except you don't need to host or rent/buy a server. its for all platforms (win, mac, linux, android, iOS) + web version.

Discord is about 1 year old and it's mostly directed for gaming community, it has ~11M users, it has also become really popular outside gaming

it seems someone is trying to make a Qt5.x wrapper for Discord API https://github.com/george99g/QDiscord

@nadir Yes, because the browser engines of browsers targeting SFOS are outdated / produce a GUI mess.

SFOS stock browser seems to catch up, but still Discord's web client isn't useable.

WebCat ditto but comes with slowdowns.

WebPirate behaves the same as WebCat (standard QtWebkit/QtWebEngine behaviour?)

IMO a native client targeting SFOS is the best option.

Discord is a closed-source datamining platform and neither suited for gaming nor for professional work due to high latency, high resource usage, intransparency, lack of encryption, bad scalability, avoidance of audits, no customization (forbidden by ToS), censorship as well as unreliability. What else to expect from Jason Citron, wannabe serial entrepreneur.

Mumble and Matrix on the other hand would be predestined for Sailfish OS. Mumble is very leightweight, features excellent audio quality and has the lowest latency of all messengers. Matrix is the allround messenger of the future which is also going to support VR and IoT. Both have C++/QT clients.

+1, particularly about Matrix. There have been a few abortive attempts to start a native Matrix client for SFOS, but it a bit depressing to see how slow progress is. I'm a Matrix Patreon, and I would happily contribute to a serious project for a function-complete client for SFOS too, but my gut feeling is that Fractal on the Purism Librem 5 will be there before SFOS..
