After a month of seamless use of the alien dalvik android compatibility layer, my android apps now refuse to load. I ran through various troubleshooting options (reboots/removing sd card sim card etc etc) but android apps still would not load.

I therefore uninstalled android support app and all android apps including all .apk packages.

Since then, I reinstalled android support (running on Sailfish 1.0.2.5) and tried running the Yandex store but the same issues occured again.

When I attempt to load Yandex now (just as with the original issue), the android multitasking card shows for 5 seconds and then disappears.

When I go to mnt/sdcard (location for android app data) there are no files populating this folder now where before there were many.

I had not made any major alterations before the issue occured - any help appreciated -

Timo (JollaTides)

Did you try to uninstall the android compatibility via terminal already, then install again?

I uninstalled via Jolla store which appears to have removed everything in the /opt/alien folder. Do you think it would be better to remove via terminal ? I just wasn't sure the exact location of all the alien dalvik files that require removing so relied on the uninstaller instead.

I have problems with some apps, for example "2014 IIHF", but, I assume that you talk about having problems with every app, isn't it? Maybe your Jolla needs a reset :S

@petaqui

Yes everything was working fine (on android side), but on saturday all android apps refused to load. The multitasking screen loaded for 5 seconds on the small card but then disappeared.

I have run a few troubleshooting options but was hoping to get to the bottom of issue before a reset.

I have uninstalled via store and then reinstalled but still the problem persists. Does someone know how to remove android support (in full) via terminal eg. pkcon remove "package name" I couldn't find the name of the android support package.

Ok after 3 days of troubleshooting, we finally have found a fix with @J4ZZ's script and a lot of help from @Sailor (thanks so much guys!)

The problem stemmed from android support suddenly deciding not to work on Sailfish Version 1.0.2.5 as mentioned in the OP.

@J4ZZ solution (which worked in my case) is posted here and involves running a Shell script to remove some cache files remaining after the Android support uninstall process on the Jolla Store has completed: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1406350#post1406350

Follow the directions in the link and then reinstall Android support and it should work if you were having the same problems outlined by me in the OP.

Thanks, timo

THIS IS NOT SAFE! I just cleaned /opt/alien and it removed all my data - contacts, photos, EVERYTHING.

I found another post on TMO which describes removing of Android support and clearing caches. Maybe this helps if your problem still exists. http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1406350&postcount=47

Thanks so much for this @Sailor - I was just going to do a hard reset but will try this a last attempt to salvage and accept your answer if it works. :-)

EDIT: Is there a terminal command for "CLEAN" ? Or can I just remove the cache files in

/data/system/dropbox /data/system/registered_services /data/system/sync /data/system/usagestats /data/system/users /data/app /data/dalvik-cache /data/data /data/user

Just remove them. For faster cleanup you could put a rm * /folders/to/clean/ in a shell script and run it...

@J4ZZ thanks for the input and the original instructional. :-)

I removed some of the files but couldn't see what was in some of the folders to remove eg. /data/system/sync (no permission to read directory via file manager).

Go there via Shell :). And do a ls -lah to see even maybe hidden files for the filemanager.
