Today I updated both my Jolla1 and Jolla C to 2.0.2.48, so I assume that backup formats are compatible.

  • I created a backup with Jolla1 to SD card,
  • tried to restore backup from SD card on Jolla C,
  • and the process hangs (forever) at the messages, exactly at the last multimedia message, which was sent today. (So only messages since that are restored, and text in the multimedia message is restored as well, but not the image.)

I'm trying now again, I will report what happened.

Update: a backup without the originally problematic multimedia message cannot be restored either. Only messages from today get restored, nothing older.

Update2: with cloud (Dropbox) the backup creation fails (or actually the sync). The Dropbox account is set up properly, everything else works with it. The end of log file:

[UI] Finalising operation
[UI] Triggered backups upload to cloud account 66 from dir /tmp/jolla-vault-cloud
[UI] Sync error: Unable to start sync!

Update3: I managed to restore backup after factory reset (2.0.2.43 or 45), but it did not restore any messages (but at least did not hang). So I restored messages manually, copying /home/nemo/.local/share/commhistory. I think there should be an easier way to restore a backup...

Update4: I have just realized, that notes did not get restored either. Need to do it manually. :(

Then put your all.vcf file to root of your phone.

Found it from the home directory. Import worked, thanks.

For contacts transfer you can use Bluetooth sync from settings, after connecting the two phones.

I used Dropbox to backup things from my Jolla phone and restored backup successfully to Jolla C. Including sms/mms messages.

I have tried to make back-up on Jolla 1 and then to restore it on Jolla C. I didn't find SMS on Jolla C afterwards, but pictures and contacts were transferred. Then I have tried this trick: created Dropbox account and Jolla 1 created backup there. Did the same thing with Jolla C. Two folder with different device ID's were created. I have deleted Jolla C backup file (not folder) and copied backup form Jolla 1 to folder of Jolla C back up (was about 450 Mb) and restored on Jolla C without any problems!

I cannot restore my contacts from People app that was backed up last year with Settings -> Backup. I get the error "There is no memory card or cloud storage account". This is true since I have neither of those, but the backup file is in my Jolla 1 phone, in /home/nemo/.vault/People/data/all.vcf.

Please make it possible to restore backups done before 2.0.2.48.

Since .vcf is a contact file, you should import it thru contacts applications. Go to Settings>Apps>People>From contact file or Start Import Wizard

Import from contact file says "No contact files found". Wizard doesn't seem to help either.

Try to put this file all.vcf to root of SD card. It has worked for me

That's the problem, I don't have an SD card. I don't like the idea of buying one just to be able to restore a backup of my contacts.

Make a backup on Jolla

Copy /home/nemo/.vault/People/data/all.vcf on Jolla C, e.g. on Downloads

Open the file manager on Jolla C and go to Download, then tap on all.vcf

Accept import of contacts

On Linux, I am using sshfs to connect to Jolla C and fish to connect to Jolla

sshfs nemo@[IP of Jolla C]:/ /home/me/somefolder

then just open /home/me/somefolder to see Jolla C root

(Developer mode must be activated, and ssh password set)
