bought intex aqua fish (jolla c) a fortnight earlier. getting familiar with different set of swipe/ pull-down menus actions for accessing different phone features. All new, feel different & good. But after a week or more I came to know about Jolla Sailfish beautiful features & quite a few issues as well, like:

  1. to bring lock screen i have to tab twice then perform swipe action, while without numeric lock, only double tab + swipe is fine, i can say if the user has put numeric key lock, then upon double tab the numeric pad should show up. [Edit] - The double press of lock key/ power key will directly open numeric lock pad. will work.

  2. i feel there is slowness in screen movement, even when u have more than one page/screen full of apps, it drags to 2nd screen, the buttery smooth fluid movement is missing, so to obviate this i clubbed most of the related apps into folders so as i will have apps/ folders needing only single page/screen.

  3. there are some features like automatic call recording which i used to do with the help of android apps in my android phone (before shifting to Jolla), but the same apps does not work in background. sometimes they work sometimes not, exactly when they work don't know. i have come to know that Jolla has this feature in new version of Sailfish but this Intex Aqua is not showing any Sailfish OS update (giving msg: up to date).

  4. On plus side the phone is connecting to wi-fi network very fast.

  5. full call log details like different tabs for missed calls, dialled calls, received calls are not a standard feature, however you can go to individual contacts in 'Users' and see the details. it will work. Even there we can see all details related to contacts - messages, calls in one place. nice feature :)

  6. No way to differentiate between send messages (sms) and received messages on main screen. But if we go to individual sms/ message tread, we get most of the detail log of individual message, the send/ received differentiation is available with left / right alignment of messages.

  7. one very good feature in Jolla C "Calculator App" is - you can edit any part of the equation / calculation and it will automatically re-calculate the succeeding results without any fuzz. Very user friendly. For example you have done this calculation: 200 + 300 = 500 / 10 = 50 * 60 = 3000 * 25 = 75000 Now if you want to change any of the input parameter (200, 300, 10, 60, 25) the calculator app permits you and it will recalculate the all succeeding results with new input values. like 200 + 300 = 500 / 100 = 5 * 50 = 250 * 20 = 5000 without re-entering the whole calculation part.

  8. But again in same "Calculator App" the missing part is - if you have done some calculation and close the app, then later on if you want to see the history by opening again the Calculator App, it is gone, you wont find it. That's not good.

  9. swipe action / pull down menus options are quite innovative (at least for user like me who are primarily using Android/ Apple phones). and its buttery smooth feel (except on some occasions) will make you happy.

  10. multiple select & delete option for SMS/ messages is surely missed by users like me who are shifting from android/apple phones. Also forwarding of SMS is missed.

  11. Five (5) seconds graphical delay for deletion of any file/photos/ messages are really very good. sometimes its life saving.

  12. you cant copy/ add WhatsApp Group contacts to phone contacts - is a real sore.

  13. Sailfish apps are of small size, so its good to install them if the similar app is available in Jolla app store rather than similar android apps.

  14. setting ambience is very easy & the look & feel also gets changed as per the ambience colour pattern. Feel rejuvenated with each ambience change. The pre-installed apps & folder colours & shapes are really eye-catching with pure black background.

  15. Customized ringtones for each contacts and the increasing ringtone volume are surely missed a lot. These were standard features in Nokia phones.

  16. The phone charging indication light (LED glow) is missing, as pointed out by other Jolla users it was there in previous Jolla phones (different LED colours for different information to user, like charging, message received etc), hope we can get this bug resolved in next update release.

  17. The major plus point is its OS which gives you a different feel ... its unique & refreshing.

  18. All android apps can be installed easily with the help of native google play store available in it. Nice for most of the users switching from Android platform.

  19. The Intex phone sends an SMS daily to a Intex data centre (9582943043) seems to be some kind of activation sms but it should be one time only. But it is sending daily 1 message and charging the user for it. Unfair.

[Update:13-08-2016]

  1. Today i used Uber App, very disappointing. The calls to driver is not getting connected, it always asking for permission and then the network goes off, tried number of times, switches Off & On multiple times... then you have to go to settings, again switch-on the mobile internet...in whole process... phone getting too hot to handle... any-how i managed to connect to driver after numerous attempts. Very Bad experience today.

After this experience, i have gone back to my previous android phone. will try again using this Intex Jolla after i erase this memory.

[update: 14-08-2016]

  1. After shifting to Android phone, i find the multi-tasking is handled much better in Sailfish Jolla phone than Android platform.

but, need improvement in integration of Uber / Ola Taxi Apps (particularly calling of drivers from these apps) and regarding phone network (no network many a times during usage of Uber / Ola Taxi Apps).

thanks

-5. I've noticed that swiping across the display wakes the phone better than taptapping it.

-8. Sent messages are aligned to the left, received messages to the right. The colours are different too.

I removed the tag how-to as it is reserved for documents that explain how to do specific things with Sailfish OS. Your post is a pure question. I hope that retagging it is ok.

swiping across method to wake the Jolla up is new to me, and its working. will see how this keep respond after few more days of use. All messages are aligned to left, no message (send or received) is right side aligned... is there any setting for that ?? @vattuvarg any kind of improvement is welcomed.

... and swiping accross is a JollaC feature. Seems not to work on the Jolla1

@amitpatel - On both the Jolla 1 and Jolla C the messages are aligned as I stated. Things might be different on the Aqua Fish (I can't check as I don't own one). There is no setting for that as far as I know. Could you post a screenshot somehow?

@cy8aer - Swiping across to wake has been added to sailfish 2.0.2.X. We will both be able to wake our Jolla 1 like that when the next version of the OS is released (it is in early access now).

When double tapping to wake the phone up, be careful to ensure that your hand isn't near the proximity sensor. It won't wake up if it detects something (otherwise you'd wake it up with your ear...). You can normally find a particular spot on the screen that'll work because your hand will be in the right position, but it's going to depend on orientation / how you hold the phone.

edit - also, note that there is an 'early access program' (basically a beta test group) for updates. Unless you're signed up to it, you won't get pre-release updates, which is presumably why no updates are showing for your phone.

I think early access is limited to Jolla 1, Jolla C and Jolla tablet. I have signed up for early access on intex aqua fish and haven't received the .48 update.

have modified the account, added for 'early access program'. will see when I get access to new version. @MikeHG - will try with your advice and will update about Jolla C (intex) waking up performance.

@vidhun91 - Interesting. I wonder why that is? Perhaps temporary, and simply that the early access build around at the moment isn't compatible with the Aqua Fish. Or perhaps because the 'Partner space' needs to be tested before a release goes out?

If the latter, they're going to start running out of guinea pigs if they don't release another phone soon :)

@MikeHG - the concept of 'Partner Space' for business reason is fine, till it is useful to end user. And indeed it (Gaana music streaming App widget) is nice. Except that it stop playing after 10 minutes in screen off mode. Yes you may be right that Jolla has to test additionally for 'Partner Space' before giving Intex Aqua Fish users access to 'early access program'.

@amitpatel - I was thinking Intex might want to test it first, but who knows. Sounds alarmingly reminiscent of the problem with Android updates being blocked by manufacturer skins, but having seen how much of a mess that is I doubt Jolla would be crazy enough to go down that road.

Anyway, it's only a beta, so no sense getting worried about nothing.
