What permissions does an app have in Sailfish OS? For example I install "Whatsup" from Openrepos. Does the app have the same permissions like Whatsapp in Android or not?

As far as I know, Sailfish apps have all permissions and you cannot restrict them.

Not entirely. Sailfish apps have by default all the user permissions. They need to do something extra to be able to do what root can. The trouble is that in Sailfish, the user's permissions are far too promiscuous. You do not even need to be root to install packages, for crying out loud. And it is not exactly hard to make an app run as root either.

But I assume the OP is asking about limitations to activities that could compromise your security or privacy (read/update contacts, access network...) or cost money (make calls, send messages...). There are no such limitations.

In January 2015 a roadmap was posted on the developer mailing list. It metnioned that there are research ambitions to use SELinux for app and system security permission control. Does anyone know if this was continued and is still an actively pursued feature?
