Please add only positive bullets to this wiki. If, for some strange reason, you need to express negative feelings about your phone, then start another thread.

  • I got a genuine penguin in my pocket
  • The feeling of NOT feeling, a too big disrespectful american company crawling up my ass whenever I start my smart phone
  • The worlds best community, including really helpful company staff and third party app developers
  • Just being unlike
  • True multi tasking
  • All apps are free (donateware) and most of them are open source which is very useful to learn how to develop for mobile phones
  • Ambiences are quite unique and they are affecting visual rendering of any Sailfish app making all apps consistent
  • Still new firmware updates since December 2013.

I know here is a similiar thread 'unique reasons to buy', but I can't find it.

. Just start using Jolla a month ago, looking as others for a free linux phone simple (once you used to it) and efficient (not a mess of apps). First surprise was french translation quality. I m not a french ayatollah teacher, but opposit to most of nowadays global tech equipement, there is no confusing 'french english' words. Congratulation !! translators deserve a good wine bottle !!!!

The reason is very simple: it's translated by the community ;-)

@silmoc that is why it is the only people powered platform on the planet!!!

DameCENO ( 2017-11-06 17:49:29 +0300 )edit

@DameCENO don't get overexited. It's rather people-enhanced, but still developer-powered.

OK, then enhanced-people & powered-developers that make more than 1 bottle a wine. PS I'm NOT a teacher (:-) !!

clementb ( 2017-11-07 21:54:18 +0300 )edit

@Spark still point me to another OS out there that has the people-enhanced feature, and I will switch immediately... Sailfish remains the only OS to fit its individual users needs, and that is just awesome

TOH

What became of The Other Halves? Apart from all the technical possibilities, they have been more than just a gimmick, but in fact the phone's garment. One can make it suitable to - well, let's say nearly - every mood. Just like slipping into my sporty Harris Tweed jacket before leaving for the golf course, I have my Jolla changed using my wooden-leather lastu case to experience a perfect fit of superbness. ;)

Wow, SFOS 3 makes the Jolla and Sony phones real awesome devices. Smooth and intuitive UI, more as ever settings and customisations can be done in the Settings menu by 'normal' (non-geek / non-developer) users. Complete including VPN, encrypted SD card storage and dual sim support (so 1 phone for private and work number, switching, good for the work-life balance). No non-wanted apps or trackers (like on other OS-es). Decent amount of native apps (though not all in the Jolla app store, that would be a nice improvement, including paid apps to support Jolla (sustainability) and the developers). Please support us with some awesome native apps to serve our messaging (eg Telegram, Signal, etc), music (Spotify, Tidal, etc), video (Youtube, Vimeo, Plex, Kodi) and photography (camera with more quality/modes) needs and the Android support can be out-of-the-window! I am really happy with the OS improvements. It will be the amount of devices and native apps that will be available to us that will dictate the amount of users that will join! @JollaHQ, awesome work, keep it going, don't slow down!

I have half-working native (unofficial) Tidal app :-) But I will need help to implement some functions from some more experienced developer.

For Youtube there is YT Player and microtube (in OpenRepos). Kodi is also in OpenRepos, desktop version.

Wow great news! Tidal native sailfish app would be awesome! No more spotify lossy music.

@kuba77, Maybe Sebastian Wolf can help you out to develop it into a full blown Sailfish app

Love having the terminal at hand... Then theres the interface... Marvellous. And since SFOS 2, Sailfish have gotten quite feature rich. You have all cellular fetaures, networking features, decent amount of native apps, and wherever missing there are android apps that can fill the void nicely. Last but not least, the keyboard... Man, I just love it!!!

ssh access via USB

Just try to connect from a desktop via USB to your Android phone - it wouldn't be that easy. You need adb on the desktop (which you can install iff [=if and only if] you're admin ;)) and all kind of other apps on the phone.

I disagree, because it's not finished yet. There is many ways to improve it. So in shortly: I like idea of top menu, better than ambience menu, but it's very unpolished that I almost want use it yet.

does what is expected in a slightly unlike way, allows for some tinkering, UI looks ok, without the mess of android store or the apples walled garden.
